Just ignore Robby - he has something against joiners - I think its the fact that they are skilled at doing something.:D0

I've bought a concertina loft ladder from a specialist loft and ladders shop.
They told me that this style of ladder doesn't need the hatch enlarging. Fitting the ladder and altering the existing hatch door to hinge outwards is all that is required. They told me its 2 hours work.
I have a fitter in mind who is on a £150 day day and wants to book it in for a day! This seems excessive.
Do you think someone would fit it for about £40?0 -
My brother in law is a joiner and he works for 10p an hr ,do you think its too much ,i want him to make me a hand made walnut kitchen.0

I've fitted it it myself in under an hour.....and have an extra £40 to spend in the pub.;)0

Joiner, Carpenter, the only difference is regional isnt it? Up north we're joiners down south we're carpenters.
The labour depends if its just a straight forward aluminium ladder and plastic pre-formed hatch or some thing more complicated.
Either way £150 is ok.In wood we trust.0 -
I paid last year £60 for a B&Q loft ladder fitted but I did also have 3 doors fitted on top0

A skilled tradesman will typically look to make 150 quid for a day's labour so in that regard it sounds spot on. Whether there's actually a day's work to complete the job would depend on exactly how much modification is required?0

WoW ! ! !
There`s not any tradesmen I can find up here that will work for less than £200 per day . And they are all busy for weeks ahead ! ! !
I`m in N.E.Scotland too not London so I`m not sure where you all find guys willing to work for £100 - £150
Maybe you should be looking for a move up North guys , lovely scenery here too !
:beer:I`m now officially too old to die young0 -
What you have to be careful of is these fellas masquerading as joiners who have no qualifications and are thus just labourers on the minimum wage.
I'd not pay more than £10 per hour for a skilled worker to fit a loft ladder and I'd want a guarantee as well.
Beware of the "cowboys" out there!0
