Moved from Chelmsford, Essex to Stamford, Lincs..

When was that, Westv?
Its a relatively new idea (several years old now, but still relatively new) that the insurance companies have latched onto... charge for everything.
That was last October. I'm actually thinking that the extra cost may be down to the particular customer profile the insurance company is trying to attract. As an experiment I tried obtaining a quote from RAC using all the same details apart from one address was Stamford and the other was Chelmsford. The Stamford premium came up as 15% cheaper via that site. Like I said earlier, probably even more of a good idea to search around come renewal.0 -

Also, Essex is much more than just the chavvy image it is portrayed as. It is a pretty affluent area in most parts, and this may be why the claim rate is lower. Stamford, Lincs, is not a nice area as I recall....
It is a lovely historic market town, it was used as the chosen location for a historic TV Series I seem to recall.
No I don't live there, but I know it well.0 -
Have lived there, Peterborough and chemlsford and remember Stamford being higher in my premiums inc house insurance. There is a decent amount of crime there as a lot of people come from out of other towns and into Stamford to nick cars and burgle. Also more likely to crash your car too on some of those roads.
Never park your car in the George Hotel car park, had two cars taken from there0 -
Surely it will also be postcode driven and also whether parked off road etc. My wife's insurance went up slightly when we moved 8 miles away last time so really not that surprising
And Inactive don't be so cheeky.....0 -

Would agree with this - Stamford is lovely, some of the surrounding areas are not. Also, Lincolnshire has a high level of road traffic accidents ... I was nearly in one last weekend!Gone ... or have I?0 -
