fair enough, I just hope it doesn't go wrong on you, then you may reconsider your opinion.

Point is, there are far better places to buy your pc components and pc's from than pcworld. At least you know what you get rather than gambling on obsolete motherboards, slow drives, inferior chipsets etc etc

Not one blip in 2yrs, cant be bad, Mind you I know how to use a PC in terms of avoiding crap and ventilation and keeping clean etc etc.

It just makes me larf when folk say my PC from PCworls GRrrrrrr, I always wonder what they do to them half the time, I just dont understand folk who buy a expensive bit of kit to surf or play games with no understanding of why they really need it.

I went to clollege many moons ago to learn what they do and why they do it and how a PC can best serve me before I even considered buying one then building several for friends and customers alike. :)

as always, mechanical and electrical components go wrong, they should have taught you that. I fail to see what this has to do with PCWorld and the thread on advising someone where to shop???

PCWorld does have a reputation and rightly so. Maybe something to do with their consistent substandard components, making failure a buzz word for them. Although they do sell a nice line in PC solutions when their euipment does go wrong, good strategy

Er because you said stay away from PC World and my last post would probably get people thinking about why they need a PC.

whether people use their pc's to destruction or wrap them up in cotton wool has nothing to do with what pcworld sell.

    >they are not that expensive anymore <

Hmm, you'll be paying at least 50% premium for the convenience of walking out the shop with stuff vs. an online seller. Distress purchases only at PC World IMHO.

Yeah because I forgot that all of the PC components they have in any PC they sell are all the rubbish off the production line floor. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I know loads of people who have bought from DSG inc pc world and they usually paid alot more than anything I could have built for them. but the reason people bought from there is they knew no better, first pc and all that they got a free printer and scanner but paid £200 for the privilage.

In their defence they do have a fantastic choice especially when it comes to laptop's not many options if you dont want to buy one online. unfortunatly the staff are sales people and will try to sell you somthing more than you need but that is their job. the components section seems to get neglected slightly ans the parts available will be slightly out of date and at the original prices whent hey were released so are over priced compaired to most places for the same peice of kit.

Buying components I use local companies for me, Scan, Dabs and Aria mainly Scan as they have a counter I can walk up to, are the closest and prices are pretty good.

decide on your CPU AMD or Intel
    then find a motherboard
    Memory
    Graphics card
    Hard drive, make and type.
decide on which drives you need sound most motherboards have a reasonable card on them now
and then a case to fit it all in ohh and dont forget the Power supply.

Self build isnt always the cheapest option, but you will get a much better pc for the same money than buying from anywhere. unfortunalty if you as a company to build it for you you will be charged for the service but then they should overcome any problems with the pc and you have someone to go back to, but be specific on the components you want inside, they will try to install pcchips motherboards and geneic memory to impove what they make on the deal. (ok maybe pc chips dont exist I havnt seen them for a while)
    good luck
