Building A PC

Options
Hey all,

I am thinking of getting a PC built up from scratch instead of buying a package so i can customise it better myself.

Can anyone recommend any companies or websites that offer this service?
I have looked around but am unsure where best place would be to go.

Any info is welcome

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
www.thepcbusiness.com based in Birmingham is where we built ours. I think they have a mail order service.
  • Thanks for the quick response. Also any good deals on package ones would be great too.
Already looked at meshcomputers and dell but think its cheaper still to build a custom one.

Well Dell do cheap deals but I think you want to go the way I would go everytime build your own or buy high street.

Get a PC thats upto your specs and doesnt need upgrading in 2weeks time and is really quite top notch, Thats why I build mine as I know that all the workmanship is the best out there and I am only to blame if any probs except parts ofcourse and no phoning Indian call centres aswell.
  • scan are very good. I've bought components from them to build 2 PCs myself now and I'm no computer genius! They have excellent tech support and make sure that everything I buy, even at later dates, is compatible

I usually use local PC shops to source my parts since it is easier for me to return any parts that are not compatible or bad. Being in Manchester, there are few good shops around here with reasonable pricing for parts. Built 3 PCs on my own and I've built few for my friends .. it is not really cheap to build you own for sure considering the WinXP Home alone will cost you around £60 (OEM).

Depends on your price point. At < £500 Dell are probably selling at close to cost and can't be beaten. At > £1000 Dell are making a hefty margin and you can do better elsewhere.

I used to build all my pc's but now there are loads of online spec builders that buy in bulk and sell decent specced machine at decent prices.

Stay clear of pc wqorld, if you do want to start building your own, nick a few pieces from your old machine, sell it to fund parts for a new machine and climb up that way.

When I get on the lappie I will post some good spec building sites. I'm going for a dual core baby soon for about 800 quid.
