If it hangs for, say, 10 mins, exit the scan, shut down the pc, re-boot and try it again. The Kaspersky thread you linked to was totally inconclusive..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I have 448MB of RAM (from what it says omn the Properties part).
CureIt has stuck again a third of the way through... on C:\...mationMountPointmanagerRemoteDatabase if that means anything?
At the moment it's not doing anything. Same happened yesterday and when I tried to pause and restart it it said not responding.
Thats too little RAM (The microsoft SERVICE PACKS and updates etc have slowed down machines with 512k and under)
You really need to consider getting 1 gig of RAM put in the machine
As for Dr Web ~ Shut down AVAST and try again:idea:0 -
Have tried rebooting and shutting down Avast but it's still sticking at the exact same point as before. Hmmm!0

TICK these in hijack and click to FIX them ~
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [REGSHAVE] C:\Program Files\REGSHAVE\REGSHAVE.EXE /AUTORUN
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
Leave dr web. Clearly theres something on your computer it doesnt like
Normally id have you run a kaspersky online scan, but its not available at the moment due to them upgrading it
I assume youve run a full scan with AVAST?
If not then do so (And set the slider to MAX for it to scan everything it can):idea:0 -
Regardless, you really need more RAM, what you have now simply isnt enough:idea:0

Update! I've managed to do a full Avast scan -in sections at a time - and not crash. What a performance. Will be taking pc in to fixers for that RAM, aliEnRIK.
Nothing untoward came up on the scans - is it wrong to assume I'm quite safe, now?
I have Zonealarm, Avast, Spy Doctor..is that enough? Or would you consider adding/swapping any of those in your expert opinions?
Many thanks again for your support. It's such a relief that people like yourselves are kind enough to give advice on this kind of thing.
He's a lovely man who built our PC but last time I had a problem (to do with a Microsoft update and Zonealarm, on an old PC) he was a bit rubbish and I ended up sorting it myself, as well as paying out money we couldn't really afford. Which is amazing as I know very little about these things, apart from how to google.
You lot on here really are the bee's knees, thank you again for being so kind as to take your time to help me out. I really appreciate it.x

well you can take it to him if you like, but fitting RAM is easy as pie
Goto crucial to find what you need ~
http://www.crucial.com/
If you post back here the results of the scan we can find the right memory for you (Cheaper than crucial, or you could buy from crucial as they will replace if its wrong)
Then its a simple case of opening the PC, 'unclip' the RAM thats already in. Then clip the new RAM in (It can ONLY go one way in so you cant even get that wrong)
Heres a handy guide ~

Not sure if that link will work?
It seems I have 512mb, is it possible to put too much in would you think? I'd love it to be souped up as much as poss but wonder if it will cope?0 -
Link works fine
Id recommend 1.5 - 2 Gig (so you could buy 1 gig and use the 512 you have now to make 1.5 OR buy 1 * 2 gig chip to make 2.5 Gig )
It would work a little more efficiently with ram of the same type, but even 1.5 will be a HUGH increase to what you have now
heres a 2 gig one ~

Thanks for the advice - I've ordered that one. The static thing has put me off doing it myself before, any advice on it which doesn't involve wristbands would be appreciated...:o
Ta again!
