Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 21st October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

Cranky - still sending love and hugs your way
Nordictat - So glad you are OK, it sounds like it could have been so much worse
Redruby - I always wanted a utility room too and though ours doesn't have a sink we have turned a concrete lean to into a small one with fixtures and fittings from Ikea and I am more than happy with it though unfortunately since my OH took up cycling again it usually has his bike in the middle of it!
Curly - Aww thank you, that was kind of you.
nmlc - well done on the weight loss hon.
aussie and Haribo - Not in front of the children you two! Changing each others posts was so funny I had to read them out to my OH!
ksjam - I admitted to my OH that I had been watering down his milk for weeks. We had a full and frank exchange of views too. :rotfl:Well, he talked and I squeaked, which made me laugh which made me cough which made me go red in the face.. but you get the idea...

Well my voice is a little better which is good though the cough is worse. We had friends down for dinner last night so was pleased I could actually talk and not just whisper/squeak. We had a chinese takeaway and while not at all OS, we have enough left overs for tonights dinner so that is good. Btw, if anyone wants any prawn crackers, we were given three bags free.smile_tongue.gif

Just about finished the online Tescos shop that I started about a week ago.. I am going to ask my homehelp to go through the freezer today so I can list it all and try and do a rough meal plan. I also want to do some baking but apart from another weetabix cake, haven't decided what yet. Am feeling a bit worn out actually, but Tristan is actually online tonight, albeit via his cell phone so I shall be up a while yet.

I have so many projects either half done or not even started and yet I feel spectacularly uninspired. My OH actually sent me to bed for an hour yesterday afternoon as he said I was looking worn out. That is two days in a row. Anyway, I have to finish two birthday cards by Friday lunchtime so really must get them done first.
Ok, well I hope everyone has an enjoyable day today, with love, light andghug.giffor everyone who would like one.

    Morning.

I will have the prawn crackers..... Looks windy and autumnal out there. I am back to work at 1 today. I have a few jobs to do before hand though. Bro in law is a bin man and picks up all sorts of stuff which he stores in a shed. When I visit he tries to offload stuff on me. In good old OS fashion I accept. This week he gave me 3 full bottles of gas (enough to keep my BBQ going for 2 years) I am amazed people throw it away!
I also got Dyson DC04. I will service and clean it up later and it will be like new. Dysons develop simple problems that stop them working, but an easy fix and they are back on the road. People just chuck them away though....

Went to the forces careers office with my son. I was expecting the hard sell, but in fact they don't need anyone! Seems the recession has caused a lot of people to sign up for guaranteed job and pay... Even more incentive to get good A levels

    Have a good day...... cheers

    Morning all

I'm actually up and ready for work with ten minutes to spare this morning, so I'm here with a second cup of coffee and an apple - it's supposed to wake you up more than coffee but I don't think I can eat it. I just find it too early to eat at this time of morning.

Diva - that means I'll have to pass on the prawn crackers! Glad to hear your voice is a bit better this morning. My DD2 has also had a nasty throat for over a week now and antibiotics didn't help at all so must be viral. She's also just started to improve. Hope Tris is ok. Good luck with the birthday cards.

Dinner tonight will be spag bol with lots of value peppers bulking it out plus the usual lentils (not sure if OH knows about those ).

Anyway, must go and feed the birds before setting off, so have a good day everyone.

I had a really good day yesterday OS wise. I had a burst of energy and 10 eggs, a jar of toffee sauce and brown bananas that needed eating so set about with my son baking some treats. We created some breakfast muffins, a toffee apple pudding (eves pudding with a toffee twist) and a chocolate butterscotch banana loaf which is absolutely yum. When my other kids came home from college and school they thought Christmas had come early. I realised how much they have missed home made treats which made me a littke sad but I enjoyed my baking with DS2 help.

I also got kids to strip their beds so that's waiting for its turn in the WM. Its whirring away as I tap on the computer. i might have a trip out today to a farm shop as I have a voucher from the Telegrapgh from months ago and it needs using by Halloween. Im right out of all my fruit and veg so hopefully treat myself.

The weather looks horrid. my little dog hates the rain and has to be "booted" out of the door (not literally) and then stands shuddering under the eves of the house. She is snuggled up at the moment on my lap which is very comforting.

Hope everyone has a good day,
    Mollyx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Morning everyone.
Its going to be a loooooooooooong day at Chez Bitsy I fear. DD has been awake since 5.30am and both her and DS have woken up in foul moods
I've already had enough crying and whinging to last the day and we've only been downstairs for an hour. They have shut up now - thank goodness for Little Einsteins DVD :o

Need to pop to Tesco and pick up some of their value basmati rice and a chicken and some more milk. Sainsbury's do value rice but it's only long grain and I prefer basmati. Think I will buy a couple of packs to save another trip in the future.
Tea is bacon and leek pasta bake - must remember to get out the bacon more than 5 minutes before I intend to start tea

Didn't get chance to make my cheese scones yesterday or my peanut biscuits. Will have to see if I can fit those in today somewhere.
It's so dark here still I can't even see what the weather is doing (am at the back of the house so no street lighting here) - hope it's not too wet today.......

Diva - I don't think my H would speak to me if he found out I was watering down milk. He's pretty good at trying most of my OS ideas (lentils, less meat etc) but I think he'd draw the line at the milk. I've already switched him to skimmed UHT so I think I've made him compromise enough already :o

Molly - you're treats sound lush (albeit a leeeeeeetle bit sickly :D)

N9eav - I have a Dyson DC04 - fancying sending me the hose as mine has split ;):rotfl:

Right off for some more toast - the toast fairy has been begging for mine (who'd want to be stuck on a desert island with my kids? If they don't cry you to death you'll starve instead as the pilfer all your food :rotfl:)

Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS Or not.

I don't seem to have much time to chat during term-time:o
However, I am ahead of myself this morning so just popped in to say hello.

I am STILL WAITING for an exchange/completion date. The FTB has had his three weeks holiday and has now been back in the country for two weeks. Stupidly, he POSTED his signed contract back to the solicitors. It only arrived yesterday! Even worse, he has paid his deposit with a personal cheque  We now have to wait until next week before it clears and then we can talk about exchange and completion. I am sooooooo cross. It seems likely that we will have to spend half-term week in this house rather than using the time productively unpacking in the new one.
    Sorry, rant over......

A bit damp and dark here in the wilds of Essex. Lots of OS going on here. Running down the cupboards (again:mad:) means that meals are very much pot-luck. Piggy bank also very low due to moving costs, so lots of NSD'S:rotfl:

Hope you are all well. Sending hugs and best wishes to you all

Diva - glad you are not squeaking any more :)
Pen-pen - happy birthday for yesterday
Bitsy - hope you feel better soon
Nordictat - ouch - they certainly aren't light! I only have a tiny bike and that hurts to blazes if I have to catch and support it. Glad you are both okay and hope you stop aching soon.
Lowsey - we have loud neighbours and thin walls too
NPM - glad noah is a getting better
mummysaver - I have a semi-circle silicon rose mould that I use for that cake, but a dome would work fine too. It's much easier than it looks - to make the petals you just melt chocolate in a bowl over warm water and spread it reasonably thickly with a spatula onto baking parchment - single strokes give each petal and you can go over them again if they aren't thick enough. They don't have to be that accurate and different sizes are useful. When it cools down, you peel them gently off the paper to form the shells. The drizziling is done with a different coloured chocolate flicked over them as they are setting. I normally use 600 g of chocolate (200 of each colour) and that makes enough shells to cover 3 metres of paper (1 metre of each colour) - with enough left over to deal with breakages. I crush any that are left over and use them for hot chocolate or as cake sprinkles. I coat the cake in a thick layer of butter cream then just press the shells on, starting from the bottom and working up in rings. You will need to break some of the shells to make them small enough as you approach the top of the dome and you can put some frosting on the back of them if the aren't standing up or are coming away from the surface. The ribbon round the base hides the not-so-tidy bottoms of the petals.
mean-marie - hug for you today
Dazi - glad the bank sorted everything out for you

Have had a hectic couple of days here - my industry partners turned up yesterday (another wonderful "oh by the way we have a meeting in 2hrs" type moment) and I was buried under work at the time, so am now playing catch-up all day as I had to drop it all yesterday afternoon to meet them. But the good news is my contract has been renewed for three years formally, which is a massive relief as stable academic jobs are a rarity anyway, let alone at the moment.

Not much OS to report - OH had hovered and done the washing up when I got home last night, I have a horrible sore throat and just wanted to sleep to dinner was eggs and fried potatoes. Dinner tonight will be chicken and chanterelles in cream sauce :)

I sold another item on amazon yesterday, which I have to post today - three in a week, which is nice. It's so much easier than ebay and as most of the things I'm decluttering are media and books, at least I get to charge some postage on there. I have to post that today.

Have a good day all, cel x

:rotfl:I have a little dog exactly the same, but mine has perfected the pitifull look, whilst standing in the rain, and could break the will of the hardest person

OH and I are off to see the mortgage lady tonight, and sign on the dotted line. One step closer :D

Dinner tonight will be the baked bean, mash and cheese pie, which I made yesterday, with sausages for us, and veggie sausage roll for dd.

Will swish and swipe round before work, (thank goodness I dont have to keep it spotless for the EA any more :o)

Rubbish and recycling to go out (OH's job ). Lunch for me today is hm chicken soup, with some bread and butter.

Jayne and George, continued hugs for you both xx

Think the Autumnal weather is here to stay, it's been raining here since sometime in the night after being bright yesterday morning then it steadily got duller throughout the day .... booo. Pasta with smoked sausage and mushrooms was delish last night and quite OS, will be having sausages, mash and veg tonight, not quite sure how I'm going to organise as DS2 has Halloween party at Cubs coz they are not meeting next week due to half term holiday - think I need to do dinner between taxi service! Just have half day at work today then I have 2 weeks leave, yipee, need some time off as have lots to do and have had several busy months, house needs really good blitz, stuff for ebay, tip etc!
Need to go now, keep safe and well, hugs to those that need them.

    Morning everyone,

What, none of you left any prawn crackers for me. :D I made some onion marmalade today. Took forever and a day to boil down but it got rid of 1.25kg of onions so that's the main thing. ;) I also fried up zucchini, oil & garlic and put in containers for the freezer. I thought I was doing well but DH has just brought up a heap more and 5 eggplant to boot.

Scrubbed down the front steps with the scrubbing brush (using the last dribble of my stardrops) and had disturbing flash backs of my mother doing the same thing minus all the red dirt I got off. :D I can actually see that the steps are bright green now. :o Off to water the garden. Tea with be battered eggplant  & salad.

CM Happy Anniversary you SSC. (sexy senior citizen) :rotfl: I expect your having a sleep in ala Hester. :D
lillibet How maddening for you & how stupid of them.
Molly A burst of energy and 10 eggs.:D
Cranky Hope you are ok. <hugs>

Well the watering is calling me. Can you hear it. :D Hope you all have a lovely day. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Morning Chums i am up with the birds this morning and just off to my DDs to do the school run for her,she has to be at work at .8.30.a.m.for two days this week so I will do the morning run and my son-in-law the afternoon one. I will be feeling quite ...erm uplifted as I got my new bra's from the breast clinic yesterday so will no longer be listing to starboard anymore, but will sail majestically on an even keel so to speak :)
I am going to have a bit of a baking session today as the cake tins need refilling, so its butterfly cakes, victoria sponge and some hobnobs on the menu this morning. The weather outside is wet, dark and horrible looking so a bit of baking will not only warm my kitchen up but will ccheer my up as well. No shopping to get today so I will save my cash for another day. I am really pleased with my GC challenge and am slowly working down my freezer.Today I have a pastie for lunch with a couple of tomato's and for dinner tonight I am going to do chicken breast in bacon and cheese in my remoska, all retrieved from my freezer. This afternoon I will make my DGS his birthday card and wrap his present up that I bought a cuople of months ago. I might make some more Christmas cards as well.Hope everyone has a productive day and stays nice and warm and dry if possible.
    Cheers JackieO xx
