I will send a Christmas card from my son (pupil) and then give a small gift at the end of the school year - my son can be very hard work so I feel the teacher really earns it!!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
However much the LEA says we're running a six term year, as far as I'm concerned it's HALF-TERM next week!
And you buy a present when you or your child want to. Mine never did, although we did buy some books for the school library when they left.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
This is a recent thing - we never did this when i was in school or my kids! but i do remember giving one teacher a hug on the last day of the school year! hun - to me its getting like parents gotta go one up. If your child likes their teacher then a christmas card is appropriate - i did this as a kid but it was handmade. at the end of term - its up to you and your child. would teacher like a flower or a hand made card or gift? if i was a teacher i would go for the latter! or even at the end of the school year - its not compulsory to give gifts you know!0

I'm a teacher and I've only evr had gifts at Christmas and the end of the year. I have had the odd Easter egg or bunch of flowers too, but they're pretty rare! I certainly wouldn't expect anything now ( not that I expect anything anyway!) I've only known your child for 7 weeks!0

I used to. I had a DS1 and DS2 in the same school. I bought both teachers and TA's presents the cost was ridiculous.
DS1 has now moved into secondary school where it's no longer a 'must'
DS2 gives a handmade card, a poem or handwriten personal messge inside and it costs pennies to make.
Acoording to most teachers they'd prefer the handmade touchCapital one was £1000.00 now £0.00:j
Barclaycard was £250.00 now £190. 00
Asda credit card was £500.00 now £0.00:j
Aim to be credit card free by December 2012... Mostly done0 -
I used to buy a small bunch of flowers and a card for Christmas and the end of the year for the teacher and the T.A. but only if I felt it appropriate. i.e it would have felt hypocritical to give gifts to teachers that my son didn't get on,especially when it felt like the feeling was mutual.
Some of hte supermarkets have 'teachers' flowers reasonably pricedS/W -1, *-1.5, +1:o, -1/2, *-2, -2.5,0 -
In general parents give gifts at Christmas and at the end of the year if they are going to give them at all. However I have known of teachers to be given token gifts at other times of the year such as halloween (scary earrings) and easter (eggs). I think you just have to do what feels right for you. What I think is a lovely thing instead of a gift is a thank you letter from you or your child for the work and support provided, that would mean a lot and is likely to be treasured for a long time.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I must confess we did buy Christmas presents, but only something small or unusual, or homemade. When the last of my four left primary school, we made a donation for books for the school library. The headteacher said it was the most welcome gift
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
I never gave anything to teachers through my education, but i do remember some children doing so0
