sorry just read again what u put, and i see now u have already stated they will still keep calling.
sorry for asking same question0 -
is there a set amount of times they can call before sending the debt back to the council. i read somewhere online they can call 3 times,1 of which must be out of the hours of 8 or 9am -5pm monday to friday. is this right information ??and would the 1st person to come to my house from the bailiffs(who hand delivered me the letters on 2 seperate occasions) count as 2 of these visits? the only other visit i have had was saturday afternoon at 1.30pm0

There is no limit on the times they can visit your house. There is only the limit on how much they can charge.0

As I am in a similar situation to jade2325 I wish her good luck, I owe £800+ council tax, Was in the middle of claiming CT benefit from the Council , More information was requested, In the meantime I was contacted by bailiffs re the debt, Council now tell me it is out of their hands, I intend to pay the £42.50 bailiff charge, But after reading the advice on this thread I will now pay the Council via their online service, Am I correct in thinking I just go ahead,Without mentioning it to the council first ? Excuse my naivety, Thats one of the reasons i'm in this dilemma, Any help will be gratefully received0

Debts collectors should call only twice, and at times you have agreed. Before returning the debt to the creditor. If you refuse the appointment or any further appointments they should not come round at all i believe.
A maximum charge of £42.50 is all they can place i believe.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -

Yes, you just go ahead and pay, it gets knocked off the balance.
Annoys the bailiffs too, as they have all kinds of charges for paying direct to them which they like to add on :rotfl:0 -

IIRC it doesnt apply to HCEO's which are the ones contracted by the councils to collect these debts.
AFAIK from alot of experience with bailiffs they are allowed to call as often as they like. They must make an appointment, but that is only to remove goods to ensure that no entry needs to be forced (obviously this only applies to when there is a wpo in place and they have been in the property before whilst you lived there).
This one is a minefield. There is also the National Standards For Enforcement 2002 which can be found at http://www.dca.gov.uk/enforcement/agents02.htm0 -

You do not need to sit there with the curtains drawn.
Please note that if any of the children were to let the bailiff in, all you have to do is tell him to get out, as entry provided by minors is not acceptable.
You do need to keep the doors and wondows locked however.
Have asked Herbie21 to check you out as I am not around much over the weekend.
Take care. Chin UP
And have you found you local councillor yet?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
The bailiffs can call as often as they like but can only charge the £42.50 you will fimd they will stop calling and send the debt back to the council.
Did you tell the guy at the CT that the bailiffs were refusing to set up a payment plan, despite what he may tell you the council can take the debt back from the bailiffs(lay it on thick that they are lying to you and bullying you), the mention of your local councillor will shake them up. I know of three occaisons when these debts have been taken back from bailiffs with just aquick e-mail from the local councilor)
Get on to yours now just mention that neither the council nor the bailiffs will accept your payment plan. I bet the debt ends up back in the hands of the council straight away.
One person i know e-mailed his local councilor and the next day the council were on the phone informing him that they had taken the debt back from the bailiffs.0
