The OP asked how to speed up a slow PC. I was simply offering my personal opinion on how to do this. This includes removing ZoneAlarm and AVG as I find they slow PCs down. I simply then recommended alternatives. It's not have a go at david at all but it is not necessary to inflict your personal opinions of various progarms that other users have been perfectly happy using to resolve their problems.
Haha funny. It's somewhat frustrating to spend time writing a post to then find the OP hasn't followed it and hasn't made clear their fears or worries. If they don't want to follow it or have valid reasons then I'd hope they say. But if they come back asking for further advice not following the previous, and not telling me which parts they have done then this is where frustration creeps in...Your credibility is lost when you throw your toys out of the pram if they don't follow your control freak instructions to the letter - grow up! Thanks for everyones advice was hoping it would fix it by removing the stuff mentioned as pc has become very unstable and I dont have the option of re installing xp the pc is a few years old I know but havent got the money to buy a new one at mo.I havent a prob with removing avg or zone alarm if I have to but never had a problem with either of those. It only seems to have gone wrong since all those windows updates a few days ago dont know if its related to that?0

David yes im plowing through it all but it just takes so long to get the pc started again.I cant reinstall xp in answer ot one of your earlier points as I have lost the disks
I couldnt check the database version so wasnt sure
You could use windows inbuilt one. Personally I use PC TOOLS FIREWALL with no problems:idea:0 -
ok right im off to remove zone alarm then back in about a bloody hour then after its rebooted lol0

Make it easy for yourself.
Go and join PCpitstop.com and then run a full system test.
In the list of running programs it will tell you what is REQUIRED and what isn't. Open Windows Defender (free from MS and you may have it) and under tools find the stuff that starts when your machine boots...and disable them. No need to uninstal as they do nothing if they don't start.
It will (literally) flag any problems you have, big or small. Advise you on a fix.
IF you are epileptic it's wise not to watch the screen as it tests...it does a serious amount of flashing which could be unpleasant during graphics parts of the tests.
PCpitstop is free but supported by ads so watch out for clicking on ads that only want to sell you Panda etc. ..you don't need to use any of that. You can do many tests there, and handily you can go back and compare your tests to past ones to see if you have a problem in future.

Just consentrating on the startup items in your HiJackThis log you can get rid of all of these following as they can all be starting when needed and one or two are cheeky spywares (the ones in bold you can delay the start of in you want if you install something like WinPatrol if not keep them):

Right ok I have managed to get rid of zonealarm.
I think I have got rid of the items that asinity has recommended that I do only when you do msconfig and go to start up items they dont look exactly like they do in the hijack thingy.
I have run the pc pitstop utility well one of them it wouldnt let me install the other one god knows why?I think I have got rid of those start up items. It definately starts up quicker withinn a few minutes anyway but it then takes about 20 mins before it will do anything after you click it.
I am posting the latest hijack anything else I shuold remove please

You could try replacing AVG with Avira, if you do remember and use the AVG removal tool.
You could get rid of these services:

O23 - Service: Google Software Updater (gusvc) - Google - C:\Program Files\Google\Common\Google Updater\GoogleUpdaterService.exe
