New telephone scam targeting PC users.

I had a call last week from some indian guy and he warned me about people phoning me up or emailing me inviting me to give out personal details or click on links in emails
Apparently, he had checked a Microsoft database called the "Gullible List" and noted that I was not on it.
I was a bit concerned about this and so asked him to put me on the list immediately, and gave him all my personal details and contact numbers and email addresses. And then (as I suspected) there was the catch ..... he said there was an admin fee for this of £50 and he needed my bank and credit card details - and once paid I could not cancel.
Now, I smelt a rat straightaway. I am not stupid, and knew for a fact that I had a right to cancel under the cooling off period. I brought this to the guys attention and he apologised and offered a 10% discount as a gesture of goodwill - which I thought was rather nice. So I took up the offer.
I'm a bit concerned though, as my credit card got declined at the petrol station this week, so I just hope that my subscription to the Gullible List went through OK.. I tried to check but I must have wrote the wrong phone number down as the one I have is not working
So my advice is if anyone phones you up about things like this, remember to get the correct telephone number0 -
Regrettably you have been scammed, there is no such microsoft "gullible list" ! I suggest you contact your credit card company, and see what has happened to your account, and to see if you can cancel that transaction. You do not have the right to cancel if the supplier is overseas. The phone number you were given is probably false as well.0

You are now on a gullible list which get sold to new scammers, so expect more scam calls and emails and junk mail. Contact your bank or go to your bank cause they do have a habbit of freezing your account if you mention the word scam or fraud, a bit like don't say bomb at an airport even if it was in the sentence I don't have a bombSurvey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

how come you guys get all the fun with these people, they never ring me
i am feeling so unloved at the moment, i just want to see how long i can keep them on the phone
i also want to get the one where you go to the website and download the exe file for the virus and then see how long it takes before they realise it wont install on my ubuntu box
although i might actually do it all the way through and open up windows xp in virtual box and try and work out what they are actually doing or trying to do with the program
Yay , I finally got one this morning , strung him along for 28 minutes
Had to switch computer on (not)
Waited for it to boot(not)
What windows you you have - seven computers i said
Let him talking into finding windows key, run and spell "ewent wiewer" takes 3...4 mins to load in snap in etc,how many errors are there ? None I said, but there are some warnings, these are malfections(???) he said. oh is it serious? it is because bad sites infect your computer, but I have anti virus , they dont catch these sites. Ooooer I said wait a minute I need a coffee.Next we spell out prefetch and type that in ...... oh I says there are 122 items is that serious? Hold on there is some one at the door I am expecting a delivery, open door and chat to neighbour (ok I knocked on the window as he walked by and chatted for a mo and brought him in for a coffee)...talk to him saying a helpful person is on the phone sorting out my computer (he nearly chokes on his coffee). Friend (new one now ... a senior person) on phone tells me to Windows R and type VVV.sport.me .... nothing happened... ahh W W W dot support dot me... Its asking for a code I say, how long have you had the computer. I said 20 odd years, we can give you an option to extend warranty he says, mind you it seems very old. Oh sorry I said the computer is 7 months old I thought you said how much IT experience have I got, obviously I thought 20 years might have told me something about what the prefetch folder is , and what malware is, and what is basically a scam, but it has been fun talking to you. mutter mutter sorry to have troubled you.

I'm so angry I could scream at her, but it's too late now - my Mum got this phone call yesterday and fell for it.
Although she didn't get as far as parting with any money, she did let these people have full remote access to her computer
Can anyone help me with what I should do now for damage control? Her boyfriend seems to think that deleting all programs added to the computer yesterday will have solved any problems, but even with my minimal knowledge I suspect this is highly unlikely.
I've got her doing a full virus scan at the moment, but would imagine she'd also need to check for trojans, keyloggers and so on, and don't know if AVG free covers those.
Unfortunately I'm about to go to a wedding, so can't go round to her house and check it out at the moment, but any advice would be most gratefully received!0
