Tesco Shopper? An easy way to double the Clubcard points you earn

The old tesco visa cards give half a point for every £1 spent anywhere. The tesco clubcard gives you an additional 1 point for every £1 spent in tesco. Therefore in tesco this gives you 1.5 points in the pound (or 6 points in every £4). Multiplied by 4 this is 6 pence in the pound. (the old tesco visa card deal is no longer available)
With this new card (new to me anyway) you get 2 points in every £1 spent at tesco. Multiplied by 4 this is 8 pence in the pound.
The only disadvantage seems to be up to 2 month's lost interest on whatever you spend at tesco (i.e. paid 1 month before you spend, where as with a credit card it is 1 month after spend the money).
So if we say we spend £400 a month, 2 month's lost interest at 5% would be about £1.50 (I think), but the gains in points would be 2p * 400 = £8. £6.50 better than the old tesco visa. You could use similar maths for the egg card.0 -

You'll get fewer points than with a Clubcard Plus though (3 points for
every 2 pounds spent compared with 4 points per £2 with a CC+).
And the new Tesco credit cards are less generous with their clubcard points.
I've had a CC+ since they came out (about 10 years ago I think). One thing Martin didn't mention is that you get paid interest when your account is in credit (though it's not that much at 0.99% gross). I don't necessarily agree with his verdict of the overdraft. It's only 9.9% APR which isn't that bad by overdraft standards. You are only allowed to go overdrawn by as much as you pay in every month. So if you have a standing order set up for £300 a month then you can apply for an overdraft of £300. Even if you regularly go into this, it only costs pennies a month in interest.
Using my CC+, Tesco Visa, Powergen gas/elec, tesco mobiles and making use of all the bonus points coupons/offers I can find, I earn around £400 per year in vouchers - which quadruples up to a very nice £1600 worth of "deals" in a year - which I spend on holidays.0 -
Put another way:
Tesco Visa = 6p in the pound
Clubcard plus = 7.6p in the pound
i.e. 400 * 8 = 3200 - 150 = 3050 / 400 = 7.625 (using worst case figures, e.g. 2 months lost interest, 5% interest)
edit: not taking into account 0.99% CC+ interest, so really is worst case.0 -
RebeccaP wrote:...upgrade to annual passes with a discount based on the full ticket price....How does this work please?
Based on Legoland (for example).
Adult Restricted annual pass costs £58
IMHO not worth going for a full pass as Legoland is so heaving during August it's unpleasant to visit before 4PM!
You exchange £7.50 worth of Tesco reward vouchers online to get a voucher for a Legoland day ticket. This voucher you exchange at the Legoland kiosks as normal, and get given a nice day ticket with a face value of £30.
Then visit the Annual Pass office once inside the park and you can exchange your day ticket for an annual price by paying for the difference between the two ticket prices - usually called an "Upgrade".
i.e. Hand over day ticket and forms, and restricted pass will cost you £58 - £30 (ticket price) = £28!
Therefore you are in effect getting an annual pass for less than half price, but forgoing £7.50 reward vouchers in the process.
Similar technique for zoos and other theme parks, though check T&Cs as some don't let you.

My only complaint is that you gave us an 0845 number when there is a normal landline and `freephone` number aswell !!
Tesco Personal Finance 0845 7104010 or 0141 3088028 or 0800 7838001 Instant Access Savings automated service
I copied the regular numbers from https://www.saynoto0870.com so all can benefit even more.
they gave me a freefone direct dial for the application form:
0800 4060500 -
The freephone number didn't work because you have to put a customer ref number in and if you don't it advises you to ring the 0845 number. The 0141 number worked just fine and application on the way!

Do you know if this scheme works with other Tesco's vouchers?
When I buy online, I use the voucher codes from:
http://tescovouchercodes.blogspot.com
There are normally vouchers for 1000 extra points if you spend £75, which is far better than just double.

Here's a tip if you have the old style tesco credit card (The new one is a real moose and best avoided) If you have had your tesco credit card more than a few weeks you will still get 1 point for every £2 you spend on it. Tesco have gone out of their way to tell me that the terms and conditions on my (older) style card will not be affected by the new style cards that only give an extra point for every £4 spent on it. So if you already have the tesco card this tip is for you. Put everything on this card to gain the extra points, then pay the card off in full every month, here's the smart bit. Join 18866 or similar, then when you get your statement pay on the last possible day by phoning 18866-01268-508027 this means the call will cost 3p regardless of duration. (Much better than the 0845 number on the back of the card) I suggest you make the call in the early evening, then when you get the recorded message asking you to put in your card number deliberatly fudge it. On the third failed attempt you will get to talk to a real person much much faster than going through the automated way. Then tell them you want to pay your account and tell them your switch card number. The nice person will confirm you have settled the bill and that even though it wont come out of your account for a few days, the payment will be backdated to today to show you did pay on time. Ho Hum, to think if I asked first direct to do it they would have taken the amount out of my account a full 7 days earlier !o) and to think if I posted a cheque I would have had to buy a stamp AND loose out by at least 7 days interest. If you dont have the old style card you would be much better off going for the clubcard plus Old card=6% plus you get to keep your money in your account for another 6 weeks which is relevent if you have an all in one off-set mortgage like I do. new card=5% clubcard-plus=8%
I have had 5 excellent totally free family holidays so far, this October we go to Turkey all inclusive for my family of 4 (Holiday value £2,650) for £505 in clubcard vouchers that I earnt in only 9 months. I love tesco. So should you when anyone can do this.To anyone that tells you "There is no I in team" say no there isn't
But there ARE TWO I'S IN COMMISSION and I dont get paid "Team"
