The OP couldn't have seen the courier struggle up the garden path to drop the TV at the front door and not leave any paperwork or did the OP see the courier?
If the OP did see the courier why was the question not asked "where has it come from?" or "I did not order that"
    Please read post #3.

BTW I didn't mean to Thank you I was after the quote button.

Gosh; trying to decide whether to congtatulate you or not.

I might try googling some of the codes/numbers on the address label (in the vague hope) that they might throw up a courier. Wouldn't hold my breath. Have you checked all your emails inc junk to see if there is a clue there?

    Ah, thankyou.

So it was Gran who took delivery of the TV but no receipt/paperwork, reckon someones job is on the line then!

If the TV was for someone else and a mistake was made with the name and address details then I would have thought the company who sold the TV would have picked up on it by now.

Something like a 40" TV would have been sent out with a delivery date to the customer who bought it and I'm pretty sure the original customer if indeed there is one would have noticed his/her 40" TV not being delivered on the day specified.
The courier who delivered the TV will have records where a 40" TV was delivered too.

If it was not a mistake then someone has given the OP a very nice surprise or as another poster has said a competition win.

Just a thought OP, you have had no problems with unauthorised payments being taken from your cc/debit cards or missing mail/redirected mail?

I mentioned that a bit earlier myself. The reason being it could be that someone has got hold of the OPs credit card details and fraudulently used them to buy the TV but in this instance the retailer has done the right thing and delivered the item to the credit card address, rather than a bogus address given by some thieving toe rag.

Yes you did neilmcl must get my reading specs on!

The OP also said........ "have checked all credit cards and bank statements and there are no mysterious charges appearing so havent been charged for the item."

But maybe worthwhile that the OP keeps a carefull eye on their statements just in case it hasn't gone through yet or even better phone your bank/cc company just to check.

Definitely. A similar thing happened to me a few years ago where some thieving scum had used my credit card details to order a 40" plasma from Currys which they got delivered to an address in London, I live in Notts. The first I heard about it was when my credit card fraud office contacted me regarding the suspicious transaction, which thankfully they had put on hold even though the delivery had taken place.

Just had a quick trawl and found that for uncollected/abandoned goods the police should be informed but as the TV is properly addressed to the OP this shouldn't apply.

If you have uncollected or abandoned goods you do not have the right to keep them. You should try to arrange for the removal of the goods by contacting:-
    • the police
    • the owner
    • someone with authority to act on behalf of the owner - for example an employee of the owner.
Since there may be some doubt about who the owner is, you should contact the police to notify them about the find. If you fail to report abandoned goods you may be guilty of a criminal offence.

When the goods are reported to the police they may:-
    • identify the owner is and tell you to deliver the goods to the owner
    • identify the owner and then tell the owner to collect the goods from you
    • take the goods into their own care.
If the police take the goods their usual practice is to keep them for two months. After that they may offer them to the person who found them. The owner of the goods can claim them back up to one year after they have been handed in. So if the police return the goods to the finder, the finder must retain them until a year after they were first found.

Did any of your neighbours see the courier? Anybody around you in neighbourhood watch (even unofficially ) who can tell you who called?

As others have said, I'm concerned that you may find yourself paying for this TV and the company refusing to take it back!

What does the label look like? You don't need to put your address up but the style of label may help people to identify it. There aren't that many national couriers in the UK (lots and lots of local).

How very strange, OP have you bought anything from ebay?
Just wondering if address labels have got mixed up somewhere along the line.
It's odd that it is addressed to them with correct names etc.
