How can i clean a leather suite / sofa

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you brilliant people might have some idea of how to get sticky *gunk* off leather without causing damage.
I had a yankee car air freshner (the gel type) and had the car sat in the sun for a couple of days. It melted and landed all over the dashboard and gear stick. Managed to wipe it off the dashboard but can't get it off the leather gear stick cover thing. I've tried washing it off with a wet sponge and it looks like its gone whilst wet but as soon as its dried its obviously still there and is quite sticky to touch.
I'm a bit hesitate to attack it with anything too harsh in case I cause damage. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might shift it. Its probably not that noticeable to anyone else but I know its there and its really irritating
Thankyou0 -
Try a baby-wipe0

Hi,
I know this sounds weird...but try....Mayonnaise.
Works for me when the kids have put stickers on things.
Also Nail Polish Remover but that might be too harsh!
Hope this helps!0 -
thankyou :T I'll give your suggestions a go and see if I can get it to shift. Will leave the nail varnish remover to the end I think, just in case!
Learnt my lesson anyhow, no more gel air freshners for me0 -
if those ideas dont help, this thread has loads more
let us know what works and ill merge this later

We've just bought a new-to-us car and it had a patch of velcro stuck on the dashboard. As it is quite delicate - some sort of fancy shiny wood - I suggested OH try my medical adhesive remover, it's kind to skin after all. It really was brilliant.
If you don't know anyone who has any you could try a chemist to see if they have any samples, if not pm me and I'll post you a couple of sachet wipes.0 -
baby wipes didn't touch it
if anything more obvious now.
Thanks for the tip about medical adhesive remover JayJay, I'll have a go. Think my sister might have some so will check, if can't get hold of any I'll be in touch because its bugging me0 -
Hope this is the right board.
I need to clean my leather suite and just wondered if anyone knows of a cheap and good way to clean it without harsh and expensive chemical cleaners. I was thinking washing up liquid but don't want to ruin it.

I have always used babywipes, the gentle ones rather than the "wet ones" type which would probably be too drying.
They have skin conditioners in which help keep the leather soft too
(actually, I use babywipes for loads of cleaning!)0
