How can i clean a leather suite / sofa

Hi all, this is my first time posting here in O/S so please be gentle
My neighbour has very kindly given me a spare car seat and I'm planning to turn it into an office chair. It's been sat uncovered in the corner of his lock-up while he restored his car and was filthy with greenish dust from all the sanding of body filler etc. Most of it came off with a soft brush and a vaccum cleaner, and most of the rest with some baby wipes followed up with some spray-on leather cleaner/treatment I got at Tesco. Except the seat base is still quite green and I can't seem to shift it. It actually looks like it might be mould/mildew, but I'm not sure what it is or how to proceed. Here are a couple of pics:
What could I try? Thanks in advance for any advice.0 -
There maybe someone along with practical experience on this one particularly the green stuff, which unfortunately looks like its 'in' the leather not just on the surface...
But I use black shoe polish on my car leather seats - works a treat and is very MSE! Maybe worth a try if you don't get any better advice?0 -
Yes, it does look like it's actually in the leather itself. I've got some black polish on standby
but if it is mould I didn't want to risk 'sealing' it in and have it festering under the surface damaging the leather.

I tried a couple of coats of black polish but it didn't make much difference.
After asking for isopropyl alcohol in Boots and getting blank faces, I bought a bottle on eBay. Diluted 1 part alcohol to 2 parts water and used an old microfibre cloth to rub it into the seat. Several applications later and it's still slightly green, but not nearly as noticeable as it was. And my mate made up a subframe as an early birthday present and I now have a comfy novelty office chair! :j0 -
Your chair looks very comfy. Glad you got it sorted.0

Hi,
I don't have an OS tip really, but my Mum was given a creamy leather cleaning product when she bought the sofa. She uses it every year or so (she likes the worn look, but not too much!!) and it brings it back like new.
I can ask her if you like? I think it was from Barker and Stonehouse.

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing leather suite cleaning thread to give you more ideas

Thanks!
I have very pale beige leather sofas in my sitting room and I just wash them down with a soapy dishcloth and then dry with a towel. They have at times been pretty grimy but it does bring it out. I have leather wipes as well but don't think they do anything any better.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200
