We have had our leather suite for 18 years  i`ve always cleaned it with a damp cloth followed by a dry cloth and we`ve never had any problems with it.
Once a year i spray it with a wax free furniture polish to put a bit of a sheen back onto the surface and give it a quick rub with a dry cloth.

I use leather wipes. They cost around two pounds in the supermarkets but have seen them in the pound shops.0

Yes I think you're right. I got told by my beauty-counter sister not to use baby wipes to take my makeup off because whatever it is they use in baby wipes to neutralise wee isn't very good for facial skin.0 -

Can anyone help me with cleaning my brown leather sofa? It is ok, except for where my husband sits - there is a patch where the oil from his head has marked the leather and made it visibly darker. Is there anything I can use to clean it myself, or will I have to resort to calling in a specialist cleaner? Tried all the usual stuff, but it doesn't seem to be a surface stain, more that it appears to have been absorbed into the leather! Thanks. Any help much appreciated!!0

Arrggghhhhh......only read the first 2 pages but tons and tons of people saying use babywipes.....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - please don't do this, it may look like it is being nicely cleaned but in the long run you are seriously damaging the leather finish, its ok if you only want your leathers to last maybe 5 years but any longer and they usually start to wear and crack badly.
I don't know if this is right but i was advised to use surface polish (wood polish) by a friend who works for a garage (they clean the leathers of the cars with it) and apparently it feeds the leather as the ingredients to those sold for leather are pretty similar. I have done so for the past 6 years on my black leather suite and it still looks and feels good.
Do some research on it first but it's worked good for me, and a few others i know.
If the sofa or whatever it is isnt overly dirty, inbetween thorough cleans just use warm water(hot for you men, lol) and that'll lift the dirt - just make sure you dry it thoroughly.Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -
Hiya,
I was wondering what the best way to clean a leather sofa is? it's brown incase that makes a difference.
I usually give it a wipe every few days with dd's baby wipes, but this doesn't always get all the marks off of it.
Has anyone tried using star drops??
Thanks!April GC- 50.00 / 250.00 :j

Hi nicky,
This thread should help:
How can i clean a leather suite / sofa
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

Please dont use baby wipes to clean your leather sofa! They break down the finish and will eventually ruin it. There are some good products on the market for cleaning and protecting leather. Be sure to know what type of leather you have first though. If its protected leather this normally has a protective coating and can be wiped with a damp cloth. For a more thorough clean, buy a good quality water based leather shampoo and a leather protector. I've heard of a new product called 'lazy leather' which is a leather shampoo and leather protector in one.
