The General Diet & Emotional Support Thread

This thread is where you can come for support no matter which diet you are following.

Reached a personal milestone and fancy some credit? Happy to cheer you on, just post about it.

On Atkins but a fight with your partner has you reaching for a sticky bun? Come on in, we'll commiserate with you and make you feel less guilty.

Following a Slimming World plan but you've ate 2 out of your 3 meals before 12 oclock and you're still hungry? Pull up a chair.

Low GI but the chocolate bar in the cupboard dived on you as you passed and you just couldn't throw it off? Welcome, you're among friends, we completely understand how it feels.

A diet thread for me isn't just about trying to eat properly and posting tips etc about what to eat (or what not to, come to that). We have books and written plans for that. A diet thread should be where we can get out all those emotions that might otherwise fester away and cause us to eat something else we shouldn't. Maybe other people have experienced the same kind of thing and can suggest alternative ways of dealing with things.

We already have very good specific diet threads such as the Low Carb and Slimming World but perhaps there is a need for a general support thread which offers a more rounded support approach to our eating issues and it would remove the general chat from the threads which deal more with facts, info and tips? Some people seem to prefer just reading the factual type stuff whilst others prefer chattier posts. Since one thread cannot really cater for both parties, it seems to make sense to split the options?

Also, some diets can be costlier to follow than others. Maybe people could post their experiences of what they've followed and if they felt it was expensive or not?

My biggest issue at the moment is TOTM related. It doesn't matter how well I've been doing previously, as soon as it gets to that time, it all hits the fan. :( It's worse now, the older I get. Don't suppose anyone's got any magical tips to deal with hormonal food swings? :undecided

BTW Jo, have you tried acupuncture? Sounds wacky but my SIL had terrible headache/mood swings at time of the month. As soon as she started acupuncture it all disappeared. Worth a try?

I'd never even considered that before tbh but I will certainly look into it now, thanks Sarah. Don't suppose you have a ballpark kind of idea as to how much it costs?

Yay, the thread's working already. :) Nice to see you all. :D

Good timing on this thread for me. I am ment to be going back to phase 1 on the atkins.

Except, ive left my lunch at home :( and my snacks and my cream for my afternoon decaff coffee.

Oh and the order i placed from approved foods came yesterday, crisps, sweets, rice and i cant try any of it

Im hoping that one of the girls are going to Mr T today so i can grab a lift and get some salad / cheese for lunch if not i will see if i can get a omellette from the cafe.

I so dont want to give up on day 2.

Up side, i wont have to cook anything for dinner as i will just have my salad thats at home. And i havent had any nasty red bull!

Im sitting here at work, wishing the clock would hurry up - I need food, and i wont eat the apple pies that are downstairs.

I'm struggling to be good but SW seems quite appealing atm, although i know i wont be able to stick to that either once i have a taste of carbs.

    Maybe hypnotherapy?

BTW, it is almost totm, maybe thats the problem.

I tried hypnotherapy once. The bloke got me to visualise a time when I was thin and to concentrate on what outfit I was wearing and how it felt to put it on, zip up the skirt etc.

I didn't find it effective but I don't know if that was because of his particular technique or if it generally wasn't going to work for me. (He did make a peculiar mouth noise and I found myself concentrating on that more than anything else.)

Like most alt therapies it's not cheap. But it's worth trynig out, I think. I have a couple of friends for whom it's been useful.
