It's not about having a heart, I don't want to be dragged into anything between the two of you and I most certainly have no control over what he says on here.

Cameras have a continuous shooting button, so over 4 hours your photographer will be hitting that and also setting up photos that you ask them for - like family ones. It is maths - sort of.

Like I've ALREADY SAID .. I know what you mean.

  • Tsk Tsk.......Play nicely children!!! I think Quote (in all his awkwardness!!) is just saying that you will probably only get about 80 nice/useable shots. But the ladies are saying that as they are getting ALL the shots the photographer will physically "take", they will end up with possibly 600-800 ish photos on the disc, albeit that the majority of those will not be good/useable......am i right, both parties?

As i said, Play nicely ;)
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
  • Mine said I would get between 600 and 1000 after he has taken all the dodgy ones out. Personally, as long as I get good ones of all the shots I want then it's great because the other ones will probably stay on the cd and not be printed. It's just nice to have them. HTH Tiger xx

  • As a wedding photographer this would seriously annoy me! Check with your photographer first to make sure they are ok with it.

    Yeah we have asked her.

She said as long as they don't get in the way by moving things about (which won't happen). It won't be for all piccys anyway. She'll just be like a normal guest taking pics really.

We also got all of the photos that our photographer took (minus the really crappy ones where people have their eyes shut etc). In total we had approx. 550 shots to choose from. Yes there was a lot of similar shots but plenty to choose from too. I have just been going through them yesterday and ordered a photobook of them.

The package was 2 photographers from 10am to 4pm (ish). All images supplied copyright free on a disk. This worked well for us as we didnt want an album but wanted to save money and do it ourselves as OH works with graphics anyway. In total £500.

Hope you find a photographer BigMomma!

Hmmm not that i mean to sound nasty but the photographer is being paid for a service...and the guest is there as a guest who happens to want to also take photos. I doubt that the guest will LITERALLY take the same photo and stand directly behind the professional...but if they do, so be it!! A photographer doesn't have rights which prohibit other people from taking photo's in a public place at someones wedding. So really, even if it annoys the photographer, it doesn't matter one jot in my opinion as they are just doing their job and being paid handsomely for it!!

    (sorry if that sounds harsh!!)

Perhaps annoyance isn't quite the correct term (although it is) - it matters in as much as you end up with images of half the group looking at the official photographer and the other half looking elsewhere and the photographer will have it in their contract that if that happens it's not their fault. Nothing wrong with having guests taking photos as long as they don't affect the service the photographer is being paid to provide.

That works out as one photo being taken per photographer every 36 seconds, not counting any formal shots you might want, or a photographer wanting the toilet or something to drink.

Are you worried that might compromise on quality/variation?

Not wanting to get drawn in either, but have to say i think there has been some misunderstanding.

Quote - you would have a valid point if it were one photographer, i would normally only take around 1200 for a full 10 hour day, and that would result in 800 - 1000 photos for the customer, and yes there would still be lots of doubles, but actually customers like that, the photographer may think they have got the perfect shot, but the customer doesnt like how their chin looks etc. And most photographers wouldnt shoot on continuous but would change their angle slightly or move someones hand etc that will result in a different shot but can still be done within seconds meaning you still get the volume but they arent all identical.

But with 2 photographers that is actually be 400 per photographer - this is completely realistic, and will not be a double up of images at all because they will both have different roles - for example in the church (not sure if your in church or not but anyway) one will focus on the couple at the front whilst the other gets photos from the back, and close ups of guests etc, again group shots - one will do these and the other will be watching the guests looking for those moments that the other photographer cant capture becuase they are doing the posed shots, whilst one does photos of the decor the other will be paying attention to the guest, and these are just examples, it will vary in different teams.

Also even if you had 2 photographers stood next to each other they wouldnt take exactly the same shot.

And finally it depends what the 4 hours cover, for example if it was the getting ready you would get a lot of repetitive shots, but am assuming its from arrival at the church, which means it will cover arrival of guests, groom party shots, arrival of bride, shots of bridal party all together, individual portraits of all important people, the ceremony itself (which involves many key shots) then exiting ceremony, confetti throws, guests mingling, group shots, then they are goiung to have photos in another location just themselves - you can get real variety here very easily, then im guessing they will also be going on to reception venue for at least an hour where there will be more photos of guests, and other groups, and maybe even the wedding breakfast and speeches within that time.

Anyway, even if 800 included 4 of each photo that would be identical (which just not happen) that would be 100 different shots - wnd believe me, when you go to put them in to an aldbum 100 is still a lot, and actually if you had 800 that were all different then you would struggle to pick, and putting 800 in would mean it would take your friends hours to look at them. lol

As for my wedding i am paying £900 for up to 10 hours photography 1 photographer, includes a pre wedding meeting and photos with one 10x8 included, and dvd of all images of wedding aswell as online gallery for friends.

some may think this is expensive but she is worth it, and being a part-time photographer myself i appreciate that that money is actually paying a weeks wages, materials and expenses, and actually is very reasonable.

My contract says that shots I set up can only be photographed my me. Couples sign this contract and I can enforce it if some annoying guest is right over my shoulder distracting my subjects. I have numerous examples of group shots where the subjects are looking at other people taking photos and not at me. This is not what the Bride and Groom want. So it's up to me to make sure this doesn't happen by asking guests not to take photos during the formal shots. They can then set up their own shots later if need be. So if you want the best from your photos you are going to have to listen to the experience of your photographer.

And yet another comment about photographer being 'handsomely' paid

It all works out good in the end.
If it's not good, it's not the end!

Just wanted to add a point here that our photographer spent ages setting up shots, lighting, etc (as our photos were indoors) only to have some guests trying to take their own photos and their flashes ruining the lighting he'd just set up!! He was fine with people taking photos just asked that they do it when he wasn't trying to take his shots and/or to keep the flash off so as not to interfere with his shots.
Just worth bearing in mind cos yes the photographer is paid for a service but they should be given the opportunity to do their job properly as that's what you're paying for and surely you want the best shots they can possibly do. They're the professionals so will no what will/won't interefere with shots coming out in the best way - as others have said, other guests taking photos can mean you end up with people looking the wrong way, etc.
As long as guests are considerate of the photographer and allow him to do his job then there should be no problem with them taking a few of their own photos in between.

how can a contract between you and the couple have any standing over a 3rd party in a public place? I understand what you mean about distractions with group shots as they dont always run smooth even without a distraction, but making a contract to that effect sounds rather ott and unenforceable. Telling the happy snapper to wait their turn however sounds totally reasonable.
