Photographers..how much you paying and what are you getting for it?!

As the title says really lol..how much are you paying for your photographer? What are you "getting" for that price?? Anyone NOT having professional photographer? If so, what are you doing instead??

I am stumped - all the photographers around here (Worcestershire) seem to be very pricey!! Or maybe i am just being tight!!! But it seems that £600 is the very minimum for only 3 hours coverage and for that you don't get an album thingy, only the dvd with pics on.....is this about right??
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

We didn't want all those 'getting ready' pictures, so haggled a bit ;) and got, three hours with two photographers (husband and wife team) with a DVD of non-copywrited images (very important if you actually want to print them out!!) for £300. But the discount was because its a friday wedding :D

A lot depends on what you want...though I'd say £600 for 3 hours is bit excessive...I don't charge that for a full days coverage!

Any photographer offering albums will be more expensive (pro albums aint cheap!)

Wthout giving too much away about my own business...I don't do albums and I don't have "bronze" Silver" or "gold" packages...but I am not "budget" (I don't just hand a disc over at the end of the day) ...hmm I sound like a "what am I?" rhyme lol :rotfl:

I;m interested to see where this thread leads....watching

We're paying £400 and we get our photographer from 8am till 10pm.

We got a bargain as we're just getting the photos off the disc (no prints) and hes new to photography so is building his portfolio. But since we've booked him hes now done loads of weddings and is really good, but letting us have him cheap still :D

  • To be honest, i am hoping i will be able to do a bit of haggling myself. One lady photographer i have found charges £590 for JUST the dvd and a full days photography ie from "getting ready" shots up to the "first dance" shots. Now to be honest, i have an aunty and a friend both of whom are professional artists and both take lovely photos. I wouldnt use them for the church and reception photos (too scared LOL) but i would probably prefer to use them for those type of shots.....so i really would only want the professional to take photos from me arriving at church up to (not including) wedding breakfast. So i wonder if i could haggle her right down as i will only want her around for probably HALF the time she is charging for. She is VERY local (lives 4 miles down road from me,church and about 10 miles from venue!) so she wont be travelling miles for less money IYSWIM? Hmmm.....just not sure photographers would accept that kind of deal? I am marrying in October though so "out of season" (apparently!)

Great bargaining Kr15snw...We did that too...the couple who took the biggest chance with the 1st booking...ended up being 7th in line...We did it for free! Just reward I believe for the faith in mine and OH ability.

Relatives are great for snaps...but they tend to either miss out on the day (because they are too busy behind the lens) or miss that special shot of the kids picking daisies/playing/ or of great aunt maud who never allows herself to be photographed!

Big Momma....have you thought about maybe contacting a uni or college...they very probably have students who are very good and would jump at the chance to do a wedding or...like me...new in business and needing to build a portfolio...worth a thought ;)

Definitely negotiate but remember that you are not just paying for the amount of hours that you see them on the day. An 8 hour wedding can generate between 400 - 800 shots and about 30+ hours work in post processing.
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:

    Look at my photographer bigmomma.

She covers your area and you would get an album with a license to reprint.

2 photographers, 4 hours, all hi res shots on disc (around 800) for £300. We get the rights to the pics too.
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • I will be paying £500 for my photographer. This is disc with the images on a disc only (full resolution fles and copyright free) The photographer will be with us from the getting ready shots til the start of the meal at the reception.

I have seen others with much cheaper packages/longer coverage times but this guys photos are my favourites! Haven't asked about negotiating - I feel a bit cheeky!
