Northern Rock PPI But no Account Number

Hi

Hope someone can help.
I have been inspired to try and reclaim the PPI from a Northern Rock loan but the loan finished just over two years ago and I shredded all the documentation so no longer have the account number.
Are Northern Rock obliged to give me the account number or is this a complete no starter and should I give up now?
My claim is based on the fact that thay said if I didn't take out the PPI I couldn't have the loan.

Thanks

You can try and get a copy of the agreement from them by requesting it in a letter recorded delivery. They may supply it as it was only settled 2 years previous. Failing that you could make the complaint with as much detail in the letter as possible and see what they say. A last resort is a SAR request but it costs you £10 and they have 40 days to supply it so not very quick but this is everything the firm hold on you included. There is a template here

    Good luck

    Thank you marshallka.

I will send an SAR (been down that route with bank charges anyway and got all those back:D). Even though I will have to pay the £10 up front at least then I'll have all the info to hand.

    Hi there

If you bank online, you may be lucky to still have the details going back as far as 6 years, if you made the repayments out of your bank account, the account number details are sometimes shown next to the name of the bank debiting out the loan repayments.
Just a thought, but you never know, so worth checking as well, good luck.;)
An SAR is a good idea too, as Marshallka have stated.

Thank you for the suggestion of looking at online banking. I also found a letter that I sent to Northern Rock when we paid off the loan. Not only do I now have the account number I also know that from Nov 04 - Oct 06 we made 24 payments of £323.74 per month. The loan was originially for £20,000 and yet the settlement figure was £18871.76. I have no idea how much the PPI was actually for, but at the end of the loan we had reduced it by £1128.24 but having made payments of £7769.76.:eek::eek: TBh that makes me feel sick, I had no idea we had paid that much.

How I wish I knew then what I know now but at the time we were desperate and they said we couldn't have the loan without the PPI.

I'll update this thread as and when.

Well, I posted the first letter to Northern Rock on Monday (19th) and today (Saturday 24th) I have received a questionnaire from them asking information about the policy such as Who Is Your Policy With, Type of Policy, Premium Payable. I don't have any of this information and to get it would mean going down the SAR route which will take time.

I have read other threads so I think I should just send this back filling in what I can and just put that they should have access to the rest of the information - has anyone else done that?

    Thank you.

    Hi there
These questionnaires are more common now, if the account is no longer running (even though logically - they should still hold your details for the previous 5/6 years).
Did you manage to find the account number through checking online banking, or requesting a credit report which does not take that long, think you send about £2 for a report from a credit agency, such as Equifax, or Experian etc.;)

I managed to get the account number from online banking. I found that I had made 24 payments from Nov 04-Oct 06 of £323.74 each (and sent this info to northern Rock) but I don't know how much of each payment was the loan/interest and how much was the PPI.

Hello R10, fill in what you want/can on the questionnaire and send it back, they themselves should have the information anyway.
In order to work out the PPI amount you need to know the PPI amount and then the loan amount plus PPI.

Thank you both pinknico and di3006 for your help so far.

I am now thinking that I may send an SAR. I'll also reply to their letter and say I will send the questionnaire back in due course but would first like all the info they hold on me so I can ensure it tallys with what I have. The thing is I only know the amounts paid and the total of the loan without the PPI which was £20k, but northern rock don't know I only have that litle info. I think I could potentially be due quite a bit back and I think I would rather delay it by a few weeks and wait for all the SAR info to come back and then I will know what I am talking about a little more.

I will send all letters recorded so have until Monday to decide.

Sounds like a sensible plan to me.
