OOOOoohh, lah-dee-dah..Whitley Bay!! Luxury!!! We had to make do with Seaburn, Roker and at a push, South Shields. :)

Blimey you were posh!! The best I got was a Sunday afternoon along Seaham Harbour in a force 9 gale walking the dog!!

I defected to the South Coast when I was 18 (been here 20 years now) and I moan now when it's below freezing outside. I can remember walking to school in really deep snow..these softy southerners cease to function at the hint of a snowflake!!
  • OOh hot weather - just think of all that money being wasted on extra showers and cool drinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to anyone not from the northeast...the local references probably don't make a lot of sense to you. (but we had to live there, so we're getting our own back).

I had a blue pair of wellies with bright yellow soles. I had to wear them everytime we went to seaburn picking willicks off the rocks. Everyone always pointed and laughed at me.

with family holidays in Whitley Bay!

Some 30 years ago I had a swim in the sea there at the 'height' of Summer. It was so cold my male bits went into hiding and haven't descended properly since!

.... and the seas not too much warmer there either. Global warming - not in the North East !!

But I did see an amazing Northern Lights show whilst walking (before I started walking funny because of the sea temp at Whitley Bay) along the front one freezing Autumn night at Redcar. Nearly made the cold palatable
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

I'd forgotten they had a name! If my memory serves me correctly, didn't they have laces at the top to stop the snow getting to your toes?

Ah - those were the days! Glad I'm in sunny Cardiff now. Don't tell anyone, but I've got the heating on to dry my washing!

I hate the heat and have often thought about moving up North! I tell the kids central heating's bad for them so we don't have it on much. My heating and hot water is gas and I pay £20 per month for a 3 bed - how's that for moneysaving?? My thermostat is on 20 and half the radiators are turned off permanently. I hate the summer cos I overheat all the time.
