The Evils of Heating!!

Options
Reading another thread about immersion heaters reminded me of something. One thing thats ALWAYS been ingrained in me is the evil (thumps bible!!!) of heating. I think I picked it up from my grandad. Icicles had to be hanging from the ceiling before he'd even say the word 'thermostat' - he'd tell us to put more clothes on. And it makes sense! I'm a bit of a nazi when it comes to heating in the house - pees me off when the girls are sitting there in vests and short pants complaining that they're cold.

We were watching a christmas carol yesterday, and it came to the bit where Bob Cratchitt asks Scrooge if he should put another lump of coal on the fire and Scrooge starts a long speech about "...man being intelligent enough to invent garments to keep himself warm..." and "..garments lasting longer than coal, which burns out quickly...".

I could FEEL my wife and daughter turn slowly to look at each other, then look at me and start grinning. This is what I have to put up with.

    I'm always cold and you won't see me in a t-shirt until it's about 25 degrees C!!

So, here we are on a chilly and wet spring evening and yes, I'm ashamed to say, my heating is on and I'm wearing a jumper!

Why is it that blokes are always hot and women are always cold? Is it hormones, genes, something else?!

Originally came from Sunderland with that lovely north sea breeze coming in, so I don't actually feel the cold that much and my natural colour is blue - I have to sit in the sun for 12 hours to get this this lovely tippex-like complexion

Did your mum ever get you in the kitchen and stand you in front of the oven because the house was so cold?

    Mine did.

It is the opposite in our house, i am the one who barely ever feels cold but my OH is always moaning.

However we have to keep out house at a certain temp, even at night because one of my children as physical problems which means he not only has very poor circulation but he can not control his own body temp very well. He gets cold very quickly, even in summer and then he suffers pain and swollen joints and depending on how severe it is he will have difficultly walking and using his body. All that even with extra clothes and thermal underwear.

Now he is at school i have the heating of for most of the day and just make sure it comes on about half an hour before he gets home so the house has warmed back up.

It does cost me a fortune but my only solution is to make sure i have the cheapest suppliers.
