Why is it that blokes are always hot and women are always cold? Is it hormones, genes, something else?!

My partner and I are the exact opposite. The first sign of chill in the air and he's running to turn on the heater, meanwhile I usually just put on more layers if I'm cold which is quite rare.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

When I lived at home in winter I had an inch thick layer of ice on the inside of my bedroom window - and guess what my dad did for a living?? He was/is a central heating fitter - guess who didn't have full central heating? Us!

We always had coal fires and a toasty living room. What we didn't have however was hot water! :(

My Father always had the thermostat for that turned down as low as poss so we had likewarm baths and even then they were only half full as the hot ( ) water always ran out.

Now as an adult, I always have the heating down and the water up. Plentiful hot baths in this house! :D

This is the funniest thread I've read in ages!
Originally came from Sunderland with that lovely north sea breeze coming in, so I don't actually feel the cold that much and my natural colour is blue - I have to sit in the sun for 12 hours to get this this lovely tippex-like complexion
I was brought up in Newcastle, with family holidays in Whitley Bay! I saw Billy Connelly a couple of years back and he described himself as blue. I thought this was hilarious. I know what you mean about getting a tippex-like complexion. Sometimes I go red from the sun, but this is when I've forgotton to put my children's factor 60 suncream on. I'll then go white again within an hour or so!

I was just thinking my feet were cold - I'll have to go and get my socks!

OOOOoohh, lah-dee-dah..Whitley Bay!! Luxury!!! We had to make do with Seaburn, Roker and at a push, South Shields. :)

I also recall Billy talking about his childhood - saying that out on the oil rigs in the north sea there are blokes being told "if you fall in the water, you'll be dead within 35 seconds through hypothermia", yet back on land all the mothers in the area would be dragging their kids down to the beach, chucking the kids in the same freezing waters and calling them 'soft' when they complained. hehehe

    Memories....

That's great!!! I think he called them 'jessies'!

Ooh I've just remembered - he also mentioned something about a donkey and a carrot whilst swimming in knitted shorts!

Maybe I'll get hold of this on DVD - where's my ebay account?

I didn't even know what central heating was until about 7 years ago when i came to this country! When i was a child I remember going to the shopping centres just to experience the air conditioning and to get cool.

At the moment, I've got no choice that if I'm cold I have to put an extra layer of clothing on - as my heating and hot water has packed up.

Heating isn't the problem so much, it's the hot water - having to bath at Dads at the moment.

Heating is fine, either add more clothing or as someone else suggested, turn the oven on and stand in front of it for a while.

Was always told to do that when I was younger (supervised of course).

I think Mr HQ is part snowman, part quaker, to get him to put the heating on is very unusual. I have become quite adept at putting on tshirt, jumper and fleece! Once the thermometer has started hsivering we may get an hour of heating!
I once lived in a house with virtually no heating and clothes and the quilts flet wet they were so cold it was awful. Funnily enough I'm a lot hardier than what I was and since I've really started saving money to use for other things I haven't wanted to put the heating on so much! Sometimes its warmer outside!

I do feel a bit guilty about the heating thing deep down. I'm quite a big guy, and that combined with coming from the North East, means I have a really low heat threshold, so I make the family suffer a bit. I hate summertime, don't handle the heat well at all and the ideal move for me would be somewhere like Alaska. I'd probably still keep the windows open.

Whenever I see warnings on the news about global warming, I get panic attacks and think life is going to become unbearably moist and sticky, but then when I watch movies like 'the day after tomorrow' which say global warming will switch the warm currents away from europe and push us into an ice age, I just think "aaaahhhh....nice....."
