CD/DVD drive acoustic silencer: Software utility by Toshiba to reduce vibration noise from notebook computer optical drives. Interesting ??
Synaptic Pointing Device: software for your laptop touchpad for your mouse pointing device. it helps you use your touchpad better
Toshiba zooming utility: Again Synaptics Touchpad.

    To disable I found:

    Go to "control panel"
    click on "Mouse"
click on the tab "device settings"
    click "settings"
    open the tapping menu
    click on "tap zones"
uncheck the box that says "Enable Tap Zones"
    click Apply
    click Ok

HOWEVER if these are utilities / software that would have been there since you got your machine so I wouldn 't say that you would gain much speed by disabling them. They were running before so you must have other software using your memory.

Need to check what is running on the Services. Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
Check out what is running, some applications are necessary for Windows. Anything looking suspicious?

Cheers Karom, think I'll keep them running then.

I'll check the Services thing when I've finished doing what Z suggested. By the way, if I'm searching for files do I need to do that on both user accounts, or just mine since I'm the administrator?
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

As admin you can see other user accounts (C:\Documents and Settings).
If you want to delete his User Profile -> right click on My Computer -> User Profiles Settings -> you should see it.

I'm doing the services thing, these are ones without descriptions, or that I don't understand:

    Ati HotKey Poller
    ConfigFree Service
    MBackMonitor
    QoS RSVP
    WMI Performance Adapter

    They're probably all important/vital/obvious!

Thanks again for all the help!
