OS Daily Thread - Saturday 17th October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 17th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,
bday2.gifAgeandjo - hope you have a great day!
Essex - if anything I am worse... I literally am squeaking.. my OH finds it highly amusing. I am double dosing with Vit C and echinachia to keep any worse lurgys away.
Bitsy - It's a harder road to tread but you are a great mum and I know you will help him all you can.
redruby - great news on the house chain moving again!
Topher - hope your friends get the results they want, I am in a similar situation with one friend with an inoperable brain tumour; another just diagnosed with breast cancer and of course my best friend Tris who has prostate cancer among other things. The only advice I can give is to be yourself. You are friends for a reason and all they need is for you to listen really. Me being me means I also research all I can so that I can keep up with what they are going through and send them links to read if appropriate but sometimes all they want is a bit of normality and to talk about anything but what is happening to them. The fact that you are asking for 'advice' shows what a good friend you are to them, so just carry on being you.

Gosh, sorry, that was a long paragraph. smile_confused.gif

Nomoneymummy - you brave woman!
Mummysaver - hope you feel better soon hon
Nikkei - thank you hon but I tend to just look through what I have here and the ideas flow - I am just a tad rusty I think.

My OS-iness yesterday was practically invisible and today I have a busy day but not sure how much counts as OS. My local avon lady seems to have taken a shine to me (during the summer she kept catching us in the garden when delivering and liked to chat) and she has asked me to help her with some paperwork and admin for her Avon and some other party plan thing she does so she is coming round for an hour or so and I have to wash my hair and eat early as it is carnival day in Taunton which means my OH has to leave here at 1645 to get up there and through town to where he works before they close off the roads.

I made a start on the first birthday card and just as I suspected, now I have about four ideas and cannot decide which one to do. They all revolve around stiletto heeled shoes in one guise or another though...

Lunch will be corned beef and salad sandwiches with home grown shallots rather than onion and dinner will be freezer surprise I suspect unless my OH picked something up on his way home from work that I have yet to see.

I hope you all have a gentle start to the weekend. With love, light and HShuggies.gif for everyone who would like one.

Morning. the first of my days off and the start to the weekend. Friday night was steak night as ASDA have rump steak for £4 a kilo. That is a bargain You can even put it in stews and casseroles at that price. If you are in to lamb, the whole shoulders in Tesco are also a bargain.

The minister is coming over this morning to discuss the funeral service, so somewhere in there I need to clean out the hens and do a few jobs. It looks like a fine weekend, although rain is coming next week.

Probably go out somewhere later...... Daughter is in London celebrating her 20th birthday today, she should be back on Sunday.

There are some cheap things about for Christmas, so I need to pick a few of those up.

    Anyway have a good weekend

Good Morning Diva, N9eav and all to follow. have been away for a bit so not around on here lately.
N9eav, sorry to read about your family bereavement - ((hugs)) especially to your wife.
Diva - how do you remember everyone in your posts? They're always so full of personal messages. My mind tends to go blank so quickly!
House has managed to get untidy in our absence (OK, it wasn't great before we left!!) so need to try to remedy that today. The WM is on as I type, and I should try to finish DH's cardigan sometime this w/e.
We had a few days in Dublin, never been before and really liked it.
Hope you all have a great day.

    Morning everyone.
I have a food shopping list as long as your arm to get  Why or why do I seem to run out of the basic things like toiletries etc all at the same time? Its going to completely blow my budget. Nappies are 1/3 off at Sainsbury's so that's going to push my budget up as I like to take advantage and stock up.
Anyway kids are in fine fettle this morning. H has to pop into work. I have a potential new client coming round at 1pm with her child - she needs afternoon wrap around care - not mega bucks but any money is better than none!
OS wise - beds need stripping, washing seems to have multiplied overnight
I keep looking at the leaves spread all over the garden and putting off picking them up. We have loads of oak trees (one in our garden, others in next door) and every autumn/winter we spend the whole season picking them up. They never rot down so I can't just leave them........its a never ending job hence the reason why I keep putting it off!!

So that's about my day I reckon. Pain in my lower abdomen seems to have eased so hopefully my Doc was right about not being poorly enough for appendicitis ;) However I am now fighting a cold so out comes the eccinacea (sp?)

Off to catch with yesterdays thread. Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day all OS or not.

    Morning all

Have been lurking for a while but would really like to join if I may? I luckily managed to get some of the Rump steak in Asda yesterday - what a bargain - it's now in the freezer ready for a later date. OH has gone to work so won't be expecting him home until lunchtime. Need to wash and vac my car as some kind birdies have pooped all over it! Also need to put BM on to make some pizza dought for HM ham and mushroom pizza for lunch for the children and OH. I'll be having my fav salad - (had LBM after seeing friends wedding photos in May/June this year - not at all happy with what I saw and needed to address this! Have now lost 1lb short of 2 stone since June so feeling much happier and better but still have a way to go - but head is completely in the zone and as I have a big birthday in Jan 2010 I know where I want to be by then!) OH and I are going to friend's 40th birthday party tonight and children are going to sleep at grandparents - I love my children to bits but it's good to have some quality adult time too! Have several other jobs to do to general washing, ironing, vac and dust.

Have a good weekend everyone, keep safe and well.

Going to get some washing on, jump in the shower, clean the bathrooms then head out to Asda - think will write a quick list before I go then I wont need to do an online shop this week. This afternoon will be spent cleaning kitchen windows & blinds & the afternoon ironing.

DS has got a bowling birthday party to go to this afternoon, am hoping OH takes him.

Didnt get loads done yesterday but did manage to clear out & tidy my baking cupboard. Looks lovely in there now. Am planning to do a cupboard every couple of days.

    Morning all,

Its a beautiful day here, bright and sunny, with a crisp wind, so the first load of three is in the wm, should all get nice and dry today.

Need to have a good tidy round and hoover through today (OH hoovers on saturday), and get my washing all done and out. DD will be off with her dad, and once we are done OH and I will get out for a walk, with picnic and coffee :T

Tea tonight will be an omlette, I seem to have loads of eggs , will just do it with some nice tomatoes and some bread and butter.

Jayne and George, hope you got some sleep, when do you pick kitty up ?

Marie, hope you are ok and not too sad about the empty nest, xxx

Welcome to nmlc well done on the weight loss, and enjoy your child free night ;)

Did anyone see the os programme on last night ? I thought it was brilliant but not long enough, they should do a series.

Ageandjo, :bdaycake:Happy Birthday sweetie, have a great day xxx

OK need more tea, have good days all xx

    Morning peeps

i never managed to get on yesterday so need tò catch up today.
My day began with walking the houndies and then a trip to Asda, then a trip into w*rk for my flu jab and then a trip to Dads followed by a trip to Morrisons.

I was looking forward to a sit down and a cuppa but the houndies were in tormenting moods so i shoved them into the car and we went for a lovely walk down into Ford Valley. They absolutely loved it and so did i so i`m really glad that we went on the spur of the moment.

Food was prepped for when DH arrived home from w*rk and after we had eaten we popped to the hospital to see one of DH colleagues at w*rk who has had an operation, later we managed a sit in front of the telly for half an hour before bed but we were both falling asleep as soon as we sat down.

Todays plans are to walk the houndies and prep some bits and bobs for a roast dinner tomorrow, then a bit of ironing needs to be done and i need to pop to the cleaners and then wash the car. This afternoon will be spent smashing some more tiles off the walls in the kitchen unless anything unexpected crops up. Another busy day ahead methinks but i need to get cracking as i`m back at w*rk tomorrow so won`t have much time for anything.

    Welcome NMLC :hello:
Happy Birthday Ageandjo, have a lovely day :bdaycake:

(((HUGS))) to Cranky & George & for Meanmarie too!

    Have a sunny Saturday peeps!

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

Hubby's had his breakfast & been dropped at work, he's working 14 days without a break & he's getting tired.
WM is on, but I don't think it's drying weather here today, so it will all go on the maiden in the spare room. I really must do some serious housework, but am sadly lacking in enthusiasm.
    Have a good day.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning folks.

What a night. Don't know if I ate something bad or what yesterday but from about 6pm til about 2 in the morning I was (to put it lightly) running to the loo every 15-20 mins it seemed. I finally fell asleep around 2:30 but feel so tired as if I didn't get to sleep much at all. Maybe take a nap later.
I'm suppose to go with the hubby for a bike ride today but I don't think I'm up for that.

On a better note..getting my "to buy list" together for Christmas. I saw some nice things at Superdrug on the 3for2 offer so when it comes to shop (next month) I will be stopping there. My nephew really liked that Adidas gift set I got him last year so I might get him another one (different scent) for this year.
I'm doing most fo the Christmas shop alone this year. Flying to London Gatwick..staying overnight at a airport hotel (I got a good offer for) and in the morning... leave my empty baggage behind at the hotel after check out (ok'd this with the hotel already) ..heading to the Whitgift centre in Croydon and then coming back some hours later with gifts galore..load up and head to the airport via the hotels shuttle and then take my evening flight back home.

Anyways..enough gabbin' from me. Need some tea.

Have a nice day everyone :D
:D *If you like the advice I give...let me know by clicking the THANKS button* :D
  • hi all
Been up a lot in the night with DS who came home from school with a terrible cold and cough yesterday and high temp. He is on the sofa with a quilt at the mo and will be there all day resting. If he is still ill I don`t know what to do about work on Mon and Tues if he needs to be off school ......work will moan if I stay off due to the sickness I had recently and OH was ill 2 days last week so we are already playing catch up with money:o...well DS is the important one so if need be one of us will have to be off and tough.
will not get much OSing done today.....may try to bake some cakes for freezer as have 10 eggs going off today:rolleyes:.
HM pizza for tea later hopefully if I get a chance to get it done.
cranky had a look at those type of cats and they are beautiful....when do you get her? its a lovely thing to do for George.
