That sounds par for the course.

But things like this shouldn't be bought on price. Is it a dentist you trust and like?
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

lava crowns are very realistic in my experience. Hence the cost! If you grind your teeth then you would find you would be having a lot of veneers done!

Just to follow up on the possible misunderstanding re NHS dentists and white fillings ... you do not need to see a private dentist per se for these. All NHS dentists are still private. As tootsmith said - the NHS will not fund cosmetic white fillings but that by no means indicates that the dentist themselves can not do them for you. The important thing with all dentistry is find someone you trust, you are happy with and who is capable of doing the work ... or knows people to refer you to.

I'm getting a crown fitted privately tomorrow. Cost.. about £600 IIRC.

I was offered an NHS crown for £200 by the same dentist, but I wasn't really happy with having a gold coloured metal tooth.

I've just been to dentist to get tooth prepped for a crown, which will be fitted in 2 weeks, and he used the colour guide so it matches my teeth, so its obviously going to be white (ish, lol) not metal or gold...
This is on the NHS, as I am exemopt from charges i wont be paying anything for it...
Have i just got a really good dentist or is it the norm really to do white crowns?
