It is best to discuss what treatment you will need next with your dentist. Front six teeth are always crowned in white on the NHS if that is what is necessary.

As above ,check with your dentist but it's not unknown for two metals in contact in the mouth to change colour as electrolytic changes occur. This will not necessarily weaken the crown. More likely if it's a NHS crown as more likely to be a non precious metal alloy crown, but can even happen with a 60% gold crown which is the private standard.

Thanks for the answers :) and sorry for being so late in replying to you!

It is a NHS crown, its gold in colour, but dont know what its made of. There is no visable decay on the xrays and the xray of the roots etc look normal, it does just seem to be the colour thats worrying the dentist.

I know i properly should have it done if dentist saying so, but ive been through SO much with teeth in last couple years (lower jaw advancement, braces, wisdom teeth removal etc etc,) that really would prefer to leave it for short term.

    A query about dental crowns:
I had 2 crowns fitted to my left front tooth and the tooth next to it a couple of years ago.
At the time I only needed a crown on the tooth next to my front tooth (chipped in a sporting accident years ago and white filling eventually fell out) but asked for the front tooth to be done at the same time as this one had always been twisted and protruded infront of my other teeth(obviously had to pay for this one to be done privately as it was cosmetic work)............anyway long story short the crown on my front tooth became extremley painful within 48 hrs resulting in root canal treatment, it has always had a black line next to my gum on it and now it has become loose and has moved to a point where I have quite a large gap between my 2 front teeth.

I explained this to my dentist at my last appt in November but he said there was no problem with it and it didn't require work.........help where do I go from here? I really don't think I can put up with it until my next appt. in April but I am worried he will refuse to treat it again if I return before then.
I should add my dentist is the only local NHS dentist and I am really loathed to have any more work done privately.

    Thanks for any help/advice

You should go back if there is still a problem. At the least an xray may be a very good idea.
