  • I regularly buy SP stuff. Here's my good/bad list

    Good

    -toilet cleaner
    -cistern blocks
    -chopped/plum tomatoes
    -beans
    -pasta shapes
    -kitchen roll
    -cat litter
    -natural yoghurt
    -fromage frais
    -lemon curd
    -strawberry jam
-eggs (only if you're not fussed about them not being free range)
    -crumpets
-red/white wine is fine for cooking with though I wouldn't actually drink it.
    -rice pudding

    Bad

-Potatoes (2.5kg bag)- very small potatoes and also still covered in plenty of gritty dirt
-Teabags, it was like drinking dish water.
-Mint sauce, the consistency was like water and far too vinegary

  • I havent heard of anyone yet who doesnt like SP noodles! I always have some in the cupboard :) One thing that hasnt been mentioned is the frozen chicken breasts.. I love these and buy them regularly, at least once a fortnight! They are about 3.98 for about 7? I do sometimes do the whole roast chicken and then seperate it into meals thing though. Im a newbie on here so let me know if this is good value or am I missing out on something even better? I find they have a great taste though :)xx

I love the SP pasta, lasagne sheets, passatta, frozen veg, tinned fruit, i bought their rice the other day too was a bit dubious but was really nice and at 40p per kg a bargain! Erm, what else, oh get lots of smart price biscuits ie custard creams, digestives, cookies rich tea etc, SP gammon rounds £1 for 2, i also brought sp salad cream the other day a big jar of it was really cheap too and tastes fine, beans and sausages in tin, lemon curd, spaghetti hoops, oh and sometimes their cheese slices. Christ it looks like i buy alot of SP products but i do buy lots of asda own and branded things, can't live without bold washing powder or lenor also decent loo roll SP isnt as nice! Oh and i never buy any SP meat unless its the sauages with beans in a tin!

How about no longer being masochistic?
    How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?
  • i love the sp macaroni cheese and i also reccomend the sp yorkshire puds, yeah they're small but it just means you can have more nom nom

  • I recently tried SP spaghetti and was shocked that I couldn't tell the difference between Asda's £0.18p SP and one I used to buy in Waitrose that cost something like £1.50! It is slightly thicker than others but taste wise no difference at all!
There SP cream crackers are really good too!

The only thing I don't buy and wouldn't buy for the SP range is meat or poultry but I am really fussy about the quality of my meat and where its come from!
  • YES!
    Asda Smart Price noodles
Any of the Smart Price biscuits (so long as I can hide the evidence)

    NO!!!
The "rice crispies" - unspeakable: possibly useful for craft to add texture - as a food item, everyone hated it & even the birds seemed dubious...

as an employee of the company I can tell you which are the most popular SP items that go through my till - albeit I only work there a couple of days a week.

The noodles, I've never personally tried them, keep meaning to, but people buy lots of them.

The curry sauce - the 9p stuff - customers rave and I mean really go on about it.

SP chocolate - I think it's about 30p a bar. I'm not a huge chocolate fan, I'm more savory than sweet, but I'm told that it's better than cadburys.

the SP gammon rounds are so popular, I love them.

Can't say I get a huge amount of SP biscuits or other stuff, absolutely not coffee, but it may be worth giving the chocolate a try as when people are buying it they always try and justify it by saying it's better than Cadburys, spoke to a few work colleagues and they've said the same.
