During the last war they used Double Summer Time.

They put the clocks on one Spring and did not put them back in the Autumn

The following Spring they put them on another Hour.

A lot of people preferred it at the time. ( No pun intended )
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Yes I saw that a few minutes ago on Wikipedia. I get confused enough with two changes a year though, never mind adding more!

I like the night drawing in earlier; it's part of winter.

    I agree :p

But then you wouldn't get the lovely long summer's evenings

No - they would definately still be the same length of time ;)

I rather like GMT so would not be that chuffed if we stayed on BST all the time. At least switching between GMT & BST means that twice a year, the clocks are checked.

Haha, true, but we would not get as long in the heat/sun

I actually live in the far North of England (see just below my avatar) and I did when this was trialled - and I still maintain it was better to have the lighter evenings. We are not being plunged into darkness for longer periods - it's dark for as long as it's dark .

but what about those who live further north than you in the far reaches of Scotland? It's very dark up there well before it gets dark anywhere else..

mind you they all talk funny too :p

  • It's the night shift workers I feel sorry for. Whilst I am enjoying my extra hour in bed they are slaving away at work for an extra hour. So glad not to be working it this year! Those 12 hour shifts were bad enough, without adding an extra hour to it!

It gets darker later up in the north of Scotland, but gets lighter later in the morning.

I like the clocks going back an hour - means I can get an extra hour in bed. :j
