you have to allow for the cuvature of the earth(unless you bleive it to be flat) and that its spins on its axis so one half is closer than the sun than the other at any one time...
I'm no expert at this mind you just remembering from schoolone of the famous 50 -

Interesting theory but as Freemasonry is a secret society how did you know they are masons, do they walk around with one trouser leg rolled up.:D
Ha hano that wasn't necessary. You should know that there is no such thing as a secret where families are concerned - especially when all the women get together for a  and a chat
.
Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

I hate it being dark at 16:00 hour! We should keep Summer time throughout the year.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

Imagine how much hassle it would be if you wanted to get a train to ediburgh and arrive at a certain time - the timetable would be screwed and most folk would still get it wrong. And then any planes that travel over socttish air space would really be screwed.
A little know fact that because of the railway we are tied in to the same time where-ever you are in the mainland..
The lines of longitude are only a guide, you can see for example (on the link you posted) that China spans many lines but has a single time zone. There are also examples on there of coutnries surrounded both North and South by the same country with a different time zone. You can also see that the international date line zig zags to ensure it doesnt go through anywhere.
Yes the train timetables would be affected, but presumably this is the case in other countries already - in America they have trains crossing the whole country - i.e. multiple time zones (and of course there are many other examples). Planes get around this by stating times locally at departure point and destination, obviously trains would be more complicated as they have multiple drop off points, but it would be possible to accomodate the problems.
I'm not sure how planes would be "screwed" by going through Scottish airspace, planes pass through multiple time zones all the time and to my knowledge this hasn't caused any planes to fall from the sky or pilot's heads to explode.
I thought it was well known that train timetables were the cause for the unifcation of times in the UK0 -

It wasnt widely known, no. As i have said in the above post i know there are anomilies and im only remembering things from school. Maybe if i went to wiki i couldve given a more definitive answer but couldnt be bothered.
Im not sure why i mentioned about planes cos they do deal with this going through other countries... though i have heard instances of pedants' head exploding beforeone of the famous 50 -
