  • Well, I'm not sure of the relevance of your source to be honest. It describes an incident which happened. I backed up my statement with a study, as you requested.

Your one older incident doesn't really disprove a study, does it?

Going on your very sketchy theory the PRS have been wasting there time all these years

Sorry didnt bother to read the link.... if im wrong then this wouldnt exist as why would musicians need an organisation to help get their royalties back if it was copyrighted? if its played in public and recorded then it isnt copyrighted material as its played in a public forum, hence the need for PRS.

Meh. You ask me for a link, and then ignore it... I shall seek my intelligent debate elsewhere.

I think you need to do some more research on copyright. just because a creation e'g music or writing hasn't been registered does not mean its not copyrighted. If I create an original piece of artwork in public, or sing a new song. If i can prove that its my creation I can put a case forward for copyright theft. Thats why PRS exist to fight for artists copyrighted material whether registered or not.

So a live performance that is recorded (a bootleg) is still the property of the artist and illegal. As its the artists intellectual material. For someone who claims to have been in the music industry you have a poor understanding of copyright.

Because following your reasoning if I go to a cinema with a video camera and record a film that's in the public its not copyrighted so I could sell that on. So why all the money spent on stopping these DVDS. Why all the money spend by the music industry to stop bootleg performances of there artists being sold?

I think i'll leave it here as you have shown your limited understanding of the subject and I can't be bothered to go round in circles with you. I recommend though that you take a look at some material on copyright and copyright theft
    theft.theft.
  • you may be thinking of 'Pirated'

Bootleg Usually means unreleased material recorded in rehersals or the studio some Bootlegs can be worth money if they are rare recordings.

The point in hand is the above statement, which in your chest beating you seem to have somewhat ignored....

just beacuse a piece of music exists doesnt always mean that it is copyrighted, classical music has no copyright and is free to use.... the fact is if something is unpublished then it is difficult to claim copyright as it is more difficult to prove

A film at the Cinema has obviously already been produced and published etc otherwise they couldnt play it at the cinema? so thats an invalid point also, you dont seem to understand this at all???

hasn't a piece of music therefore already been produced before someone decides to burn it onto a cd?
