I don't think I need to be more safety conscious, and I don't need to speak to, ahem, the plod about this!
I tried to tell you who they were and why they called you; because of your recent upgrade. Orange Care aren't Orange but are doing business on behalf of Orange.
Personally speaking I haven't dealt with Orange for a couple of years, but, like most business nowadays, they probably had some T&C's stating that some or all of your details may/will be passed on to 'selected' companies, maybe, maybe not. The fact is, it wasn't a cold call. It was related to your dealings with Orange, just not done in an appropriate way. Orange themselves should deal with you, not farm the business out.
The way I see it (personally speaking) is that it's what's happening to a lot of companies, not that I think that it's long-sighted. It may have been a short-term idea that's stuck, and yes, I know this doesn't help you, but I hope it explains a little.0 -
Side track but, when i rang abbey over my credit card to confirm me they wanted to know my name, address, date of birth, card number, csv number, credit limit and recent purchases. I didnt even know what my credit limit was
Businesses does seem to ask a lot of questions and i generally don' think to much before answering.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

I have no real problem with Orange passing on my details to their 3rd party Insurance company, although I did register for TPS (can't remember if that covers mobiles, though).
I dispute that this was not a cold call, though.
The whole point of my post was that the questions asked were inappropriate in this day and age and, furthermore, watcherman, since you refer to banks, my bank's web page states quite clearly that they NEVER ask for personal details.
If legitimate companies ask for personal details, other than pre-arranged passwords, on a call initiated by them form an unrecognised telephone number, and the public get used to having to supply these details for services, then phishers' lives become so much simpler.
Personally, I will NEVER do business with cold callers who ask for personal details in advance of trying to peddle their wares and recommend this practice to all MSE members. If sufficient members of the public refuse to play by their rules or "internal policies" the rules have to change.0 -

That seems fair, as you initiated the call and they needed to ascertain that it was you. If someone claiming to be from the bank rang you and asked for these details, you wouldn't have given them over the phone, I am confident !:beer:0 -
I had some !!!!!! call me up from Natwest a while back, they wanted to "check my details" by taking my sort code, account number, date of birth, and mothers maiden name.
I told them where to stuff it.
Went into branch to follow it up, a note on my account was there saying to beware as I was uncooperative and rude!0 -
Same people called me literally about 2 days after I got the phone. They were all legit but very pushy.This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0

My daughters Bank and her Credit card company do this regularly.:eek:
Luckily she is quite savvy enough to say "of course I won't give you that information - how do I know who you are"?
They get quite out of sorts with her.:T0 -
This so called "Cold Calling" from Orange seems to be happening quite a lot recently.
Firstly, Orange don't cold call, they have no need to do this, and if they do they would ask you for your security word, or letters from it.
I had two Orange Contracts, have one now as cancelled one last month, the one I have left, is a phone I give to a family member, but it's in my name, they have said that the past three weeks, Orange have been trying to ring me urgently, and it was this 08450 number, and they were worried I had not paid the bill.
Luckily for me, my family member would not give out my information, and told them that I was not around, and that it was my phone, but they used it, and now they just ignore the call when the phone rings, as It seems they must have a whole batch of Orange Customer Numbers, and are just trying to target the vulnerable.
I don't know what Orange are, or can do about this, but my advice would be to decline their offers, but better still resist giving out any information relating to yourself, and hang up, sooner or later they will get the message that your clearly not interested.0
