And once again you are casting judgement and insulting other people
I am very sorry for suggesting that the comment that Staffs are a dangerous breed of dog and should be put down was ignorant. Suki this guy is obviously correct. I will immediately go and have my dangerous Staff put to sleep.0 -

So dangerous that mine is a registered Pets as Therapy dog, despite undergoing a temperament assessment she must've fallen thru the net!0 -
Like all breeds or types of dogs a few individuals will be dangerous - like some collies are dangerous, some labradors are dangerous etc.. However, I do not think for a moment this dog is one of them!
This dog reacted in a manner that was understandable, and stopped as soon as it realised who it was fending off! Not the act of a dangerous dog - as a poster on the last page said..Whitewillow wrote: »Believe me, the fact you only had a graze is proof enough this dog is not a violent one. If that dog wanted to hurt you, you would know about it!
I would be giving the same advice here whether this dog was a chihuahua or german shepherd... all of them could bite to defend themselves from the unknown when startled from their sleep, however many many dogs many not have realised and stopped - poor little dog, I bet it was horrified when it realised who it had bitten.
Would I get rid if my dg if this happened? - NO
Would I learn anything from it? - YES - make sure the dog has a comfy place to sleep where it will never be disturbed by the kids! (and of course, any time when dogs and kids are together adut supervision is a must - whatever the breed or temprement of the dog!)
OP have you had any more thoughts about this? - I really do not think you need to get rid of the dog if you dont want to....0 -
I agree FC, I think a cage/crate would be the perfect solution here. Friend of ours had a collie with some fairly serious "issues" and that used to be happier with a crate/cage to retire to. They could also shut it in for safety if they had guests etc. It was nice inside and was where the dogs bed was.0

You are really being pathetic now. You know I wasnt making comment on that, rather your insistence on belittling posters who have differing values then you
Just because people have different ideas and standards dosnt make them any less of a person yet you continue to put people down and make judgement - your ideas that urbanites are better people yesterday and now today that two posters on this thread are not worth the discussion.
And for people to click the thankyou post when you do so - shows what moral fibre there really is on this forum0 -

If I was to post "I hate cats they should all be put to sleep" I am sure you would also comment on those people who insulted me for taking that view point (I don't have that view point before anyone does comment I am just using it as an example). I find it intresting that your ignoring the content of the comment which I replied to and concentrating on my comment not theres and also ignoring the fact that I live in the middle of the countryside and not an urbanite but still insist I think urbanite people are better people. I really am flattered that its my comments that seem to upset you and your getting jealous when people agree with them but sadly I am married and your really not my type. But thanks anyway. I am flattered.0 -

Say you dont like cat - no problem, just stop insinuating that people who dont agree with you are lesser people. EVERYONE is entiteld to their view even if you dont agree with that view
Now I thing you are best for the iggy button because i cant be doing with ignorance in any disguise0 -

Everyone is entitled to their view and I am entitled to repsond to that view. If everyone agreed then you would get a post asking something. Someone would respond and that would be the end of it. I am not going to stop responding to views or comments because someone stamps their feet. I think you should ignore me as obviously me responding to peoples comments upsets you. I mean I could understand it if it was your comments I responded to that you got all upset about but other people's.... and then crying because people hit the thanks button. I really do think you need to ignore me.
Can I also apologise on Suki's behalf for hijacking this thread and I hope now Suki has her hands over her ears ignoring me it can go back to what was actually being posted about.0 -
hmm, this has gone very off topic now!
For what it is worth, I think Staffies, like any dog, are pretty much what you make them, with training, exercise and consistency.
I dont think the OP has a dangerous dog, just a startled one, and I think the media perception of these dogs as a dangerous breed is irresponsible, and posts which say 'have the dog put down, it is a dangerous breed' are both ill informed and unhelpful.
OP, do not worry too much, I don't think your little doggo is dangerous - I think he or she was just startled and did not realise it was you immediately - however, as soon as s/he did the biting stopped - this dog clearly has no intention to hurt you.
Staffies can be wonderful dogs, as Tigerlilly points out, hers (a middle aged rescue staffie!) has just qualified as a 'pets as therapy' dog and will be going to hospitals and resedential homes to cheer people up!
Please don't write your dog off, and do not be swayed by the arguements of people who base their knowledge on the tabloid press!0 -
