Because it could be viewed as advertising.

I'm afraid all I can do is give general advice on specifications.
  • I am not advertising and have nothing to gain, but as a consumer am happy with my product and returning for more ... I purchased a dreams own brand magnificent 7 ortho firm mattress about 2 years ago for my son and am now ordering the same for my other son. The old one is still excellent and has not deteriorated in any way that I can see - it's very comfy. I am pleased with the quality and the current price is I think about £200.
I am not talking toddlers here - this would be perfectly ok for a hefty adult too.

I have spent the past few months taking my time looking for a new mattress. Really glad I got advice on here from Tim and others and didnt rush into one of the larger stores. I did visit those at first as I wanted to have a look but got annoyed with the sales patter and cheeky staff!

I spent time visiting a few smaller independant family run stores and liked the Millbrook range the most.

In the end I ordered a Millbrook allure mattress from one of the small stores - I visited this place 3 times and the staff were helpful and friendly - no sales patter. I was not directed to the most expensive ones. I went in last weekend to pay and the mattress was delivered today, small delivery fee of £15 as they are 18 miles away. Have been told to ring or pop in if any problems - on first name terms with all the staff now who wave if I walk past!

So I shall have the half term week off to get use to the new mattress and can review it in a week or two if anyone wants to know more about the mattress.

Just need to head out next week to buy a mattress cover/protector.

So Its worth spending some time on a new mattress - Im glad I did my reasearch and found the mattress threads (and Tim!) on here:D

I too never realised there was so much to consider when buying a new mattress! Be nice not to have to avoid the sticking up springs tonight:rotfl:

So, tell us Alisont.........how is your mattress? Millbrook is about the only non-silentnight brand that I could find in a smaller bed shop.

  • just another word in favour of the BETTER ikea mattresses. i went for a top end (£400) one that was their totally natural one (horsehair and wool, not foam and stuff). extremely comfortable, good nights sleep, and i really like the fact that i don't sleep near any chemically derived products now.

    Hi, newbie here

I got real excited at Alisonts earler reveiw about Millbrook, but firstly I couldn't find the 'allure' range and secondly on their website looks like all their matresses are non-turn, Which from other threads I have learnt are a way for them to reduce costs with no benefit for me.

I am still looking for a mattress, thought I'd found the perfect one in a King Koil after sleeping on one with a topper on my hols, however Hotel told me it may have been a 'Simmons' brand depending on which room we slept in. We stayed a few times at their hotel so I can't remeber which room when. After research I have found King Koil and Simmons are not particular great, normal average run of the mill-am I correct?

What I did like about the one I slept on hols was this. The mattress felt firm, but it also felt soft, like it had some give in it. it didn't swamp me at all, but felt cushioned and supported. It had a luxusurious feel to it. iIdo know the mattress had a topper on it that was feathered.

Anyone have any ideas what type of mattress might be useful for me. Also just to say I suffer a great deal with lower and middle back and neck pain, which mostly disappeared when sleeping on blissful mattress on hols.

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Personally I don't rate any reflex foam/memory foam (or reflex foam encapsulated pocket spring/memory foam) mattress very highly, as the support isn't as good as those with full size pocket springs with memory foam, or even pocket sprung only. Also the heat problem sometimes associated with memory foam mainly applies to those types of mattress.

I don't know if you have found a very cheap price, but the prices that I have seen for a double are all between £400 and £500, which is way over the top for reflex foam/memory foam.

    Hi Tim,

I don't seem to be getting any response and I see from previous threads you give alot of helpful advice and wondered if you had any comments on my previous post 50.

    Would appreciate it very much.

    Thanks,

Many thanks for that,Tim.You just saved me a fortune! It's back to the drawing board for me-going to try some other mattresses tomorrow-full size pocket sprung with memory foam-any words of wisdom on price range as I am not going to be ripped of if I possibly can???
