I see they do a package for £15 for a lifetime listing.
They claims 1.5 million hits a month and up to 100,00 unique visitors a month.
Anyone else tried this to advertise their website/business on? Did you get any business out of it?
I know £15 is fairly cheap but we're just starting up and I dont want to throw money away.....

As I posted on this forum yesterday there are loads of listings sites cropping up all the time, any companies they sign up is pure profit but don't expect much in return. Why would you pay them any money when you can be listed on much larger sites for free, and investing in your own website would give a return 1,000 times greater?0

Recommendations for free listings on larger sites?

Have you specifically tried toplocallistings?0 -
Yeah. They put our site up in their listings, but we didn't get any traffic from them. I don't think they rank highly on Google. Their Ratings section looks easily spammable!
Seriously, concentrate on putting good keywords and content on your own site, read up on SEO (search engine optimisation), and you won't need these muppets.0 -

What search term did you use out of interest? To a certain extent (in my opinion to a very high extent) it doesn't matter if Google picks up the site. People either go straight to their favourite listings site such as 192 or Yell or put in a specific search to find a company in their area, which you are most likely to come top by having your own optimised website.0 -
I have had a listing on Top Local Listing, it's cheap. But there are two things you should consider when you are paying up for a link on such directories.
Will you get traffic from them? Based on my experience, no. If you have a ecommerce website and you are looking for some transactional traffic from such directories, you certainly won't get any.
In terms of SEO, if you are looking to place a link with anchor text (also called keyword) on the directory to your site, make sure it has a decent Page Rank (atleast PR1 or above). As far as I know, none of the inner pages on Top Local Listings have this.
So on both counts, it's a definite no from me. As martinmarv suggests, it's a good idea to read up a bit on SEO.0 -
