Because some of these free listing sites especially freeindex come up very high on google, so if someone googles say "used cars + (Town name)" it can bring your listing up. So you can get business like this, if you place a link to your website it helps you SEO.
As A6 will tell you the other advantage is if say someone google his company name the google return will fill the page up with his free listings. This means there are no or very few of his competitors listings coming up. Without this you would normally find some of your competitiors web pages would come up on the first google page.
Plus the adverts/listings are free!
Its an easy and free bit of SEO (Search engine optimisation) for beginners0
