Would expect a digital recorder to have at least a scart if not HDMI.
VCR:- Most probably has analogue receiver. So no use after analogue switchoff (without buying a freeview set-top box and connecting it to VCR.
New Freeview TV:- Assuming is is at least HD Ready, if not Full HD. Should have 1 or 2 scarts as well as HDMI. Info on model will enable exact details to be found.
Hope that helps.
Thank you!:D
My main concern was whether we could still use the box to record freeview seeing as the new tv may have built in freeview. Didn't know if there would be a conflict there?
The Thompson box is DTI6300-16 if that helps.
No idea what the tv is-a present that the BIL is sorting out for us.
The video is only used for playback so shouldn't be effected by the switch over, should it?0 -
You can probably still record Freeview with the VCR, using the tuner in the TV to output to the SCART socket the video is attached to, with the video just recording the channel the TV is set to. Most TVs I've seen allow themselves to be programmed to output different channels at different times.
I learnt this when recording the F1 races from Freeview onto an analog PVR, until I realised I was recording BBC1 and I could do this using the analog broadcast alone. :doh:0 -
It should be fine. The fact that the TV has built-in Freeview won't make the slightest difference.missingink wrote: »My main concern was whether we could still use the box to record freeview seeing as the new tv may have built in freeview. Didn't know if there would be a conflict there?Stompa0 -

WHEW!!!
Don't know why/how I got it in to my head that it wouldn't work!:o
TBH, the box is a piece of crap & we've been looking at getting a recon Humax just recently. Presumably that would be fine as well.0 -
Should be. I'm currently using a TV with built-in Freeview tuner, along with a PVR also with it's own built-in tuner. Assuming you have sufficient SCART sockets on the TV I don't see what could go wrong.missingink wrote: »WHEW!!!

It'll be fine. Our TV has a built-in Freeview tuner (most do) and we have a Sky+HD box, a Humax Freeview recorder and a Panny Freeview DVD recorder all connected, giving us the capability of recording five channels whilst watching a sixth (if there were ever that many good things worth recording at the same time ). Ok, so we got the tv:j:j:j, but after we'd set it all up, the Thompson box decided it wasn't going to power up at all!
The freeview tuner on the tv(Digifusion 37" lcd HD ready)didn't seem strong enough to pick up a decent digital or analogue signal(despite us using a booster) so OH felt the need to rush out & buy a Humax!
just wondering if anyone can shed some light on why the Thompson gave up the ghost after being unplugged?
Gutted to lose all the stuff saved on the hdd.0 -

Did you check (a) the fuse, (b) if the mains cable is detachable, is it properly inserted into the back panel socket and (c) is there an on/off switch on the back and if so, is it on?There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
