Hi Nukey,
Unfortunately it's made no differenceI tried re-booting as well, but still the same.
Should I leave it at "Automatic" before we progress?

Yup, that would be an idea.
I would like you to just try a burning utility to see if this will let you burn (this will determin whether it is a configuration or a hardware problem).
I would like you to try and download ImgBurn from here: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download - (use Mirror #8).
When this is installed, select to write a file or folder to a disc then drag a file into the list and try to burn it - would you be able to give me the results in a bit?
Thanks

It's worked ... I now have a document on disk! I've tried "sending" a Word document to disk to copy it though and the 'E' drive doesn't appear (as it used to), so a bit confused. On the other hand though, if I can send a document to disk somehow, I'm happy
Would I be able to delete this burner and re-install my old one do you think?
Thanks so much for ongoing help.

Of course you can remove it, if you like
We've discovered that this may be an issue with missing entries in the registry.
You can always reinstall your other burner and should work, however for native CD writing you would most likely need to repair the system (using a Windows XP disc), or reinstall the system completely.
It's up to you really, if you are happy with keeping it as it is and using alternative software to write discs then that should be fine; if you really do need the "send to" option for copying, then repair/reinstall will be the best option.
Sorry I haven't been much help but I think we have figured what the best option from here will be.

Nukey, you have been a GREAT help and I really appreciate all the time and effort you've put into helping me . :A
Think I'll keep things as they are for now ... I don't copy things to disc often, but do need to sometimes.
Many thanks again ...

I had this problem a while back. Microsoft do provide a solution by way of a couple of small programs for Vista and XP that doesn't require you to edit the registry yourself. Worked first time for me.

Thanks Surferdan, but got a message that "the computer settings already match this fix, so no changes have been made".Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0
