Ryanair or BA

I remember being penned up with lots of people in a very small departure lounge in Trieste Airport with the departure time continually being put back without explanation and thinking that cattle would be treated better than this. I also ended up having to stay the night in London and spending more than if I'd flown with a proper airline in the first place. However, I have had better experiences with Ryanair, and as the OP lives near to Stansted and does not need hold baggage then Ryanair appears to be the best option in his particular circumstances.

The problem with the Ryanair offer - apart from Ryanair's glorious customer service - is that you either have to get to Stansted for about 5am for the early morning flight or not get to the centre of Berlin until the evening. So if I lived near Heathrow I would prefer to fly with BA at 7am getting an extra day in Berlin and saving the time and expense of getting to Stansted. The best option for someone in central London, however, would be to fly with Easyjet from Luton at 8.25am for £22. You'd get a decent night's sleep and are in the middle of Berlin by lunchtime.

I've always found it slightly amusing in BAs claims that they "fly to your destination" (obviously in reference to Ryanair using secondary airports).

Sorry BA, but which part of London is Gatwick in again? And this idea that Heathrow is easy to get to - I'm presumably getting stuck in traffic outside the wrong Heathrow then?

And which part of london is London Heathrow, London Stansted, London Luton and my personal favourite London Southend in.

Always makes me giggle that in few places at stansted it says "welcome to london" and ive lost count how many people have asked me if they are close to houses of parliament etc, depending on how devious Im feeling they get an answer of "they are approx 30miles away" or "out of the front of the terminal turn right 1 mile down the road and its behind the mcdonalds"

Same airports ... and flight times?

From Stansted 3 flights a day. I have not checked other airports
  • I will ALWAYS use whichever airline is cheapest (bearing in mind cost of getting to and from the different airports). As I book well in advance, have a Visa Electron and only take hand luggage, then 95% of the time this is Ryanair (or easyJet / Wizz / Aer Lingus). The only time I fly high fare airlines is at Christmas, when going bmi or BA to Scotland costs exactly the same as FR or U2 (I do take a suitcase on that trip). I couldn't care less about this snobbish "well you get a better overall service" with the hgh fare airlines... for me it's about cheap. And anyway, I've never had poor service from ANY airline. Ryanair's call centre have been brilliant each of the 3 times I've used them, and Ryanair's cabin crew are always perfectly nice.

This snobbish hatred of Ryanair coming from certain quarters is really getting boring now!

I am not aware that I have ever been treated like an animal with Ryanair? I was beaten with a whip on one occasion, but that was by choice. :p

Can you elaborate on your points please, as they do not appear to have any substance behind them?

I have flown RyanAir 4 times, 3 to Germany, and i found:
    - The seats are very uncomfortable
    - The service at the airport less than pleasing
    - One of the flights was cancelled for no apparent reason.
I don't need to justify myself to you, but i have on this occassion.

Luckily, as i am a frequent flyer, and most of my trips are expensed, i don't have to fly 'no frills' and this suits me.

What is boring me is that you support RyanAir for cost alone. It's a good reason, but then why slate anyone that is prepared to pay more to not have to endure them?
Just because i chose not use them doesn't make me snobbish.
Listening to you just makes me glad i don't have to fly with them as i may be unlucky enough to have to sit next to you whilst you have your packed lunch

You can travel to Berlin on 11/11/09 with BA one way for £112 inc tax and charges. There is a £4.50 credit card charge on top of that.

You can do the same trip with Ryanair on the same day for £10.00 inc tax and free online check-in plus a £5.00 credit card charge or no charge for a Visa Electron card.

    Who will you fly with?
2 adults, 2 children, 2 infants travelling to Berlin on 18th October

    BA : £590 plus £4.50 CC fee

Ryanair : £653.04 plus £200 baggage plus £20 CC fee

    Who will you fly with?

The reasons you give are down to personal choice. I find Ryanair's seats more comfortable than those of Air France (I have not flown short haul with BA, so cannot compare), and my airport experience no different to that when flying with any other airline (unless I am flying in a premium class). Every airline has cancellations, including the full service ones (if you can call BA short haul full service anymore?).

The difference between my opinion and that of your own, is that I am willing to consider flying with any airline, and to calmly listen to the viewpoint of others.

I have not replied to the second part of the post because you do not appear to be responding to me.

All other things being equal, BA (although I would not be paying more than £653.04)! ;)
    Gone ... or have I?
