That's what they told me (and, it seems, others) on the phone  Sounds like you were told different. The joys of call centres... I hope you're right, anyway.

By the way, for those who haven't got the letter yet, the list of ID requirements is unusual. Definitely a pain in the behind for me, and I suspect others.

I was told the 23rd on the phone and the ID is a pain. Especially as one account is for missus and most bills are in my name!

My profession means I'm able to certify copies but am I classed as a relative if she's my common law wife?

Do you have an account with them already? Or maybe they just think I look dodgy :D
  • Right - been speaking to the AA on the phone. They do *not* make things easy. If you're needing to pay funds in by BACS, suggest you speak to them ASAP and be prepared for some effort (I had to speak to a supervisor to sort out a solution).

i'm not sure where this 23/10/09 came from, i rang up this morning asking about the "deadline" and he said i needn't worry as although they've closed the account so that no one could apply anymore, and that i had roughly 3 weeks to send in my cheque, and that they hadn't been given a cutoff date yet.
The confusion sounds typical BM. When they suddenly closed the 7.00% fixed rate accounts last year they allowed a further 3 weeks after the close to get the apps in so about the same sounds more likely. Just 10 days when it's taking them 5 days to send the forms out and there's postal problems sounds a tad tight.

If you've been at your address for a while they do the ID stuff from available records. It's only if they can't that they ask for paper ID.

What was the solution they suggested? Previously I've opened accounts with them with a £1 cheque then BACSed in the rest as soon as I had the a/c number. With a closed account the timing gets a bit tight.

Send things in the post today, BACS the funds on Weds, hope the account is open so funds don't bounce

Re the 23rd as a date - this was confirmed by a supervisor. Assuming they were accurate, so's the date...
  • well,

some more confusion for you all from the ever useful AA call centre.

Called yesterday and was told no problem with sending a £1 cheque and BACs on the same day. Called today to see whether I could send multiple BACs payments, and was told (twice) that I had to send the whole amount by cheque, or I could fund by BACS but not until the cheque had been received, cleared AND processed - up to 10 banking days!!

If I sent the BACS before this, the funds would not be accepted.

The only thing that they did agree on was the deadline of the 23rd October.

I'm sending the cheque today, perhaps by special delivery. What a nightmare!!

Anyone else had any other conflcting info?

As per post #67, this is all very typical of BM/AA Issues. I would recommend you pay as much as possible in via the initial cheque. It might lose you a few days interest while it sits in a current account, but it is worth it to avoid all the stress that comes with trying to second guess their rules and operating procedures.
