Thanks for your help Benidormqueen. Don't know what i'm doing wrong but this link doesn't work for me.
Looks like The Super Grip Primer might be the best one to use. What do you think. Just want something to work on the surface that is already painted.Like you i'm So fed up of re-painting and sanding the walls. Only to have the paint peel again. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0 -

try a patch with clear varnish then paint over the top - believe me it worksSaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0
-
They do it all the time on diy SOS type programs, they say they use special plaster, personally I can't see it!0

Asked my brother (a decorator) today what he uses on new plaster and he says he always seals it with alkaline sealer first.0
-
Does clear varnish really work Susank. That sounds so simple and cheap.
Just wondering if the alkeline sealer can be used over walls that are already peeling Woodbutcher. Maybe you could ask your brother for me..
Think i will just have to test patches everywhere to see what works best.
Thanks for all your advice. Certainly given me lots of ideas.
Let me know how you go on Benidormqueen.
Hopeing to do mine at the weekend. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0 -
A coat of Alkali Resisting Wall Primer, such as this one (pdf file), should cure this problem. It is solvent based based but can be over-painted with both solvent & water-borne paints.
There is also a water based primer available should that be preferable.
All loose/flaking paint should be removed and the walls sanded (and dust free) before re-painting.0 -
just a quick question - did you use Matt or Vinyl Silk when you first painted the plaster ? silk doesn't take to new plaster well, should have a Matt (mistcoat) first per paullwill8 instructions - good man yerself
I think Benidormqueens problem is Emulsion paint dosn't take over glue size, the size breaks down the structure of emulsion and it cracks and peels , I think there is no quick fix walls need to be sealed and lined to make fresh surface - otherwise slap that primer on and go for it - YeahI used to be confused, now I just don't understand:rotfl:
