no shame in that whatsoever, I was a General Manager in the hotel business for years, worked ridiculous hours - but eventually was well paid and have now paid off my mortgage, so consider myself very lucky, anyway a couple of years ago I moved back to Scotland for what seemed like a dream job as a hotel manager, phoned my boss after four weeks and told him i had to get out of there, I knew I would have a breakdown due to the pressure, having seen it happen to several colleagues over the years, anyway it was the best thing I did, I the couldn;t find any work for over a year and ended up in a call centre selling gas + elec to businesses, it was great fun, mostly younger peeps (I am now 52), and to be honest working alongside them kept me young too, bonus was good too - sadly the company closed the office in Scotland and I was made redundant, but now working for Sky in a call centre, and although the hours are a bit weird, I really am enjoying it so far - again most of the guys are youngsters, but they have a great outlook and are very inclusive towards me, no ageism there! anyway enough about me, good for you to be prepared to go out and get work, you deserve some recognition for that, it's tough out there at the moment, but you only have one life so make sure you make the most of it! I only wish the layabouts that sponge of the state had the same attitude as you - good luck and I really hope it works out for you, and always remember it's easier to get a job from a job, and most employers respect the fact that you have worked in a customer facing environment - no amount of qualifications can counter the experience of dealing with people - it's a genuine skill which future employers will respect

A few months back when the jobs situation started and was really bad I remember listening to various radio shows talking about finding work. They had various experts and company leaders etc giving advice. I was amazed how many people were ringing in saying that they would never 'lower themselves' and stack shelves/work in McD. They would rather sit on the backsides. ALL of the experts and managers dismissed this as a terrible idea. They all said, that getting any work is preferable, it shows you are flexible, willing, a worker and able to appreciate that you wil be able to get something from the job in terms of transferable skills.

I would go for it! You could be running the place soon!
