I've worked there. Yeah it's weird being a bit older, but no-one really gives a monkey's as there's people of all ages, all abilities there. I did Lobby, which was just easier for me at the time, so maybe you can ask to be a CCA (customer Care Assistant) The uniform is better for a start and you meet so many different people

There is no shame whatsoever in earning an honest living. When my local McDonald's advertised for additional staff they were inundated with people needing work. Well done you for getting a job. McDonalds are a large global brand who offer a range of shifts and a reasonable salary.
It doesn't have to be forever and I think having McDonalds on your CV may well impress future employers who can see that you are keen to work, you are versatile and are willing to get stuck in. Good on you and all the best for the future.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Birmingham Childrens Hospital caring for my tiny and very poorly grandson who was born at 29 weeks. Thanks to them he is getting a little stronger every day.:A:A:A

too many peopel be nice..at times itas good to hear the truth

    to sum it up
    a job is a job
do your hours, dont draw attention to yourself..stay a very good employee and that its

yes im not sayign teens wotmn talk..why wont they..its happens at every place..so thats normal

and its better you are doign morning shift..less teen interaction..
the only thing you can do is do one hell of a job..

    thats all
  • I agree with other posters; a job's a job, it means less of a gap on your CV and shows you're willing to take any job rather than give up and go on the dole when you don't have to. It means you're willing to muck in and don't see things as being beneath you.

The job itself involves customer service, multi tasking, using computer systems, money handling, and they do have good opportunities for gaining further qualifications and moving up the ladder.

I've mystery shopped at McD's and there are standards expected so it's not some big doss like some think it is. I'd also recommen you read the book "Everything I learnt about business, I learnt at McDonalds" by Paul FAcella. It's American but interesting nonetheless. It's a global brand and will look good on a CV.

A good friend of mine met his wife when they were both working at MacDonalds a few years ago. She is now a stay at home mum with their two children, and he has moved on up the MacDonalds ladder and is in IT - travels around Europe on a regular basis, and able to support his family in their own home on whatever income he earns. Not bad for a burger flipper eh? Don't be ashamed of what you do - it's a stepping stone.....that could take you......anywhere! Be proud of yourself :)

I have worked in lots of organisations which employed teens and where there was a big age gap between the workers. I have never encountered any problems and often found that you would get strong friendships forming between the teens and the oldies. Occasionally the teens would roll their eyes in a "OMG, that's soooo lame" way when the oldies were talking, but we would do the same to them too!

Hi, Look at it this way, You have more "life" experience than many others applying for the position, which will work in your favour.
Also as you have a degree, it shows a level of intelligence and commitment.
I'm sure that if you wanted to go in that direction then you could probably get on some sort of graduate training scheme within the company and perhaps go into the management side of things.
As for the interview, most compaies tend to like it when someone talks about wanting to advance within the organisation, as it shows commitment to the job and that they won't be paying to train you only for you to leave in a few weeks.
Also with alot of companies who deal with the public they like to know that you understand that you are the "face " of the company and as such you represent them to the general public etc etc ... You would treat them how you would like to be treated...... etc

Go for it and work your way up! get all the little star things you can below your name.! It wont be long before your a team leader or somthing like being in charge of a shift.
An older person working at that sort of place has loads to offer the customers and the younger staff.

I wish you the very best of luck with it!
:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j
  • I had a job as a lollipop lady for years after gaining my degree because it suited my family commitments.

Working in MacDonalds is a good honest job, you are earning money for your family and you are not sitting on your backside doing nothing.

Go for it and well done!
