Yes, they don't really do anything to an exhaust on a service anyway. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

yeah you need to realise what a service includes ...its just some basic maintenice really , not a full refurb of the whole car0 -
Well no, I gathered that much, I just thought they would have mentioned if they thought it needed looking at relatively soon, that's all.. he usually does and said brakes will need some attention on next service but not until then.0

Won't fail on airbag warning light but will get an advisory.
Exhaust will fail if it's audibly blowing as you state.
If it's more than just a hole and has corroded/loose it will fail.
and get the airbag fixed!
surely this is an insurance issue? they believe the safety features are all functioning and there you are driving around with a fault. Do you advise passengers that the system is faulty?0 -
I think it's just a wiring fault tbh and it's only the driver's side that has an airbag. So it doesn't really affect passengers although yes, my boyfriend, the only passenger I ever have is aware. Not all vehicles have an airbag and airbags can't be checked without releasing them so I am not overly concerned.
Just hope they can sort the exhaust out fairly quickly. If it's only a little patch which needs repairing hopefully they will fix it for me and pass it. Or will I have to have it fixed after and then a retest?0 -

The garage should be able to read the codes and advise why the system is in error and the cost to fix.
air bags DO save lives, but appreciate electrics can be expensive to diagnose and fix.

Why do you think it's a wiring fault? there are a multitude of sensors involved with airbags. They are also self checking - they don't need to deploy to check them out.
Usually it's the self checking that throws out the alarm as a component within the system has failed/not responded so the entire system is deactivated.
What year is the Laguna? most have dual airbags. but sure earlier models didn't.
If it's a simple fix (not a quick gaffer tape job) then they should do it there and then and should advise you of the work required before commencing with it. Otherwise yes, they will fail it (they may be busy - not be able to obtain the parts there and then) and then you have 2 weeks to fix and re-certify.
In that time period you shouldn't be driving around as it's not fit for the road. Only driving if it's not in a dangerous state is back to the garage.0
