MOT Failures?

You should be checking your tyre pressures regularly

The exhaust should not cost too much to put right if only one section needs replacing, shop around for the cheapest place (call around the smallish independents, do not bother calling Kwik fit etc). Should easily be under £100 unless the car is something exotic or the catalytic converter needs replacing.0 -
OK thanks ill do that. Can garages fix things there and then during MOT or will they just fail it ask if you want it fixing and then book it for retest?
Erm.. nurses costume.. whatever gets it through the test lol0 -

An airbag light is definitely not a fail.
Neither is a blowing exhaust, however they will test for emissions and the emissions can be higher if the exhaust is not functioning correctly (i.e. leaking prior to the catalytic converter or an end-of-life catalytic). I once failed on a leak prior to the catalytic and had to get an exhaust.
If you are on a limited budget, why not book the car in for an MOT at a place that also sells exhausts and you might be able to haggle a deal on the exhaust parts and get the MOT done at the same time?0 -

Well I don't think there's much I can do about it, it's booked for Sat morning.
Well I guess all I can do is pray it doesn't fail on the exhaust / emissions.. it's only a little blow and I do quite a lot of miles in it/recently serviced so hopefully it will meet the standard.
If not.. well I don't quite know.. will have to keep it off the road until payday.0 -

Exhaust fails if they notice its blowing and it would (probably) not be tested for emissions.
Confusing my airbag light (which was a dealer reset which has made it stick in my mind) with the ABS light.
The exhaust emissions
The vehicle meets the requirements for exhaust emissions, dependant on the age and fuel type of the vehicle.
The exhaust system
Is secure, complete, without serious leaks and silences effectively.
I'd still say if YOU can hear it blowing, and THEY hear it blowing, they'll fail it.0 -
Can an exhaust really go that wrong only a few months after a full service :eek:0
