MOT Failures?
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help?
My car is booked for MOT on sat and it NEEDS to pass or I will be in trouble!!
There are a couple of things that are worrying me:
1. The airbag light is on permanently - I believe that the airbag is not tested so would this be a fail?
2. The exhaust is blowing a bit - will it just depend on how much as to whether it fails or not? The car is 10 years old but the exhaust is only about 3. Will they be able to do a patch up there and then (im sure that's all it needs) and pass it, or will they have to fail it, repair it and then retest the car??
3. The wing mirror control is broken.. the knob has fallen inside the hole in the drivers door so I have to adjust mirrors manually - is this a fail?
4 . How do I check my tyre pressure before I go? and what should it be?
5. Will they generally sort odds and sods for me and pass it if I ask them to or will they fail it and then do any work and then retest it? I was thinking of saying do anything up to £100 or so otherwise ring me? Would that be ok? I cant remember what happened last year but it passed straight away so I wasn't worried like I am now.. but car is only worth £200/300 so I don't want to spend a fortune on repairs?
Thanks for any advice.

Airbag light is a fail i believe (was on an old rover of mine).
Exhaust fails if they notice its blowing and it would (probably) not be tested for emissions.0 -
Hi,

It sounds like you will be in trouble.
Take your car to a garage, preferably one that does MOTs, and ask them to inspect it and attend to required items they discover in order for it to pass an MOT. They may charge for this and a good garage will always give you a quote for approval before carrying out the necessary work.
If you take a vehicle just for an MOT, they will just test the car and give you the result ... together with the invoice for doing so."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
1 and 2 are almost certain fails.
3 Should be OK
4 You shouldn't be driving if you don't know the answer to that one.
5 Depends on the MOT Station.0 -
My old car had its airbag light on for 3 years, and passed at 2 diff garages.0

And make sure stuff like your washer bottle is full, that lights work and wipers do as they are supposed to, otherwise they will charge and will be more than if you did it yourself.0

airbag light is not a failure airbags are not checked0

Thanks for answers. Now I have checked and you cannot fail an MOT on an airbag light as it is not a testable feature (so if they did try and fail me on this I will appeal).
It had a full service less than 6 months ago so hopefully it will get through, just a bit worried about the exhaust
Yes, ill make sure i check my levels and lights before I go.0 -
If it's only a little blow you can get a proper exhaust bandage then split a tin can lengthways and jubilee clip it over the repair, this should get you through unless tester is right over the top.
some even come with metal fiol and clips in the kit.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

It is only a little blow im sure. Oh wow ill have to try and work out how to do that, im a girl who's not very well up on cars lol0

It's like a bandage really - you wrap it round the bit with a hole then put the other bit round it then do up the clips. If it makes you feel better you can dress up as a nurse to put on the bandages (pics please). The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
