It was a cash cow to be milked (for all its worth), but it was unsustainable.
Why not just be grateful that it lasted as long as it did?

I am grateful, I just feel sad it came to an end. It was sustainable for 20 or so years!!!

I agree some took the p**s, personally I usually did 20% in MOC's, sometimes less, rarely much more. Once did 50% and felt uncomfortable with it.

I agree 100% re R&R. Yes I might have gone in and got a TV (I never did, but I would if I got the chance!) but wouldn't have gone and got more than one, or trawled around getting more. Over my line.

The thing is yes I used MOC's, but I wasn't greedy, I didn't have the time or inclination to go in more than once or twice a week and did just normal shopping (except when I was lucky enough to have 250 point H&B coupons). To me it was a way to save a few quid, not get my shopping free.

The problem is when I post on here my thoughts on Martin broadcasting to the masses, when I challenge Martin that I do NOT want a secret group, I merely feel that some things should be left on here where those of us who are keen enough to make the effort to find the info can benefit - as they are not sustainable for tens of thousands to take advantage of due to their (as Martin himself admits) 'fragile' nature - well immediately the fanatical Martin supporters accuse me of greed, selfishness, being responsible for the downfall etc.

As an occasional couponer getting a few quid off and ensuring I act well within the policy I think this is a bit rich!

I do understand Martin wanting to spread the word to everyone re all the money saving ideas he can,. I do. However I don't understand why he doesn't appreciate that some things, which he himself admits are 'fragile', simply get smashed to pieces under the stampede, and then NOBODY gains.

I just sometimes wonder why we (and I include everyone who posts on here) bother, as after spending time finding and time posting to the relatively small but sustainable membership here (well the coupon policy survived years of discussion, didn't it?!?) Martin simply goes on TV and sends emails to millions, and next thing the offer has gone.

Yes it would be nice if we could ALL benefit from ALL offers, but that viewpoint is amazingly naive, and unfortunately not realistic.

If you feel that way PM offers to people rather than putting it on the forum but I don't see why any idividual member should decide that someone else is not worthy of benefitting from something
Every type of offer and promotion has a limited time and should be treated as a bonus. If you get it Great! and if you don't "nevermind, next time". No one can ever rely on any offer being around forever, there will always be a final day.

I don't feel that way, that's why I have no qualms about things being posted on here, and if they get snapped up then thats the way of things. I just feel trying to take the message to everyone, as opposed to it being here (and people having to find the message) is not working, and not just with the coupon policy.

This is an open board for everyone to find, so if they want bargains and moneysaving then come here and look for it. That's what we do!

I can't help feeling that Martin's appearances on TV and his emails to millions are less about taking the word to the masses (which this board does anyway if they care to make a bit of effort) and more about self promotion. Vitriolic? Nasty? No not at all, just the way I see it.

I think Martin is a nice guy and I have a lot to thank him for, I just think he needs to take a step back and think about what he is doing sometimes.

What about people who don't have access to a pc or aren't computer literate - how do they find out about saving money then?

Computer access is widespread and free thanks to the library system. Those of us who know about this site have put in the time thought and effort to track down the information, and to give back information in return. Because we have the sense to do this we also think about how to keep these going for the long term. Those that saw it on the telly were getting a free ride, for them it was a temporary scam to get in as much as possible as quickly as possible as some other schmo will come on the telly to give them another free ride next week or the week after. Everyone has access to a PC, unless they are too lasy to get up off their backside and join the library. They even give free lessons in how to use the PC. Even the unemployed have to make the effort of going down the DSS to get their handouts.

Easier to tell them on the TV though, isn't it?

I'll pass on your message to my 70 year old aunt and I'm sure she'll very pleased to hear you think she ought to get off her lazy backside ...

Oh, and by the way, I first heard of Martin and this site through the TV - didn't most people?

    Judgemental pig.

I'm surprised it didn't end a long time ago and it was a good run. But I do blame Martins appearance for the end of this policy. What do you expect to happen when you tell half a million viewers how to print money :(

Hmm, I found this board after hearing M on the radio.
I can`t help thinking the motives for criticising M are on the lines of `I`m on to a good thing, don`t tell anyone else`.
I say again, the board is for everyone, not a clique. Plenty of offers/ freebies come up that I miss because I`m not quick enough - c`est la vie. Even if you did couponing for just one weekend be grateful because thats more than most got.
I think the tipping point was the pedigree coupons. Tescums confusing (for staff as well as customers) policy meant them accepting a near £7 coupon in multiples!
Not only did they not stock the item, they shoudlnt have accepted multiples, but they did! How is this M`s fault? Sure you can blame lumpens for printing and selling tickets but they were doing this on ebay long before M went on GMTV.
I was only doing the coupons for 3 months, it paid for about 20-25% of my shopping. Frankly I was getting tired of the hassle as Tescum is so expensive (so whats the point of couponing unless you can scrape together a high percentage?) and has atrocious customer relations. I now shop stress free at LIDL and get high quality for low prices.

Just a note on one thing

    The quote

"I can confirm that recent media articles informing our customers that internet and supplier coupons can be redeemed in large quantities at Tesco, even if they have not bought the product has led us to make the decision to only accept coupons for products purchased by our customers. This also complies with the Terms and Conditions written on each coupon. I'm pleased to say that we will continue to accept Competitor Conditional Spend Coupons as long as the minimum spend has been met, as well as Healthy Start and Luncheon Vouchers."

Could well be about my GMTV appearance - though that wasn't about using large numbers of vouchers. Equally it could refer to the following story in the Sun.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2666392/Pedigree-chumps-at-Tesco.html

From some internal sources I also hear there was large spread disquiet about the volumes of the pedigree vouchers being used and possibly reprinted as cash.

    Martin

Thankyou for taking the timeout to reply when you're so busy ;)
The conditional spends that you refer to are still too often refused by the "trouts" servicing the tills at T's. Maybe, by way of recompense you could have a word with Sir Terry (not Wogan) on our behalf?

    Best regards,

    Mad :A

    Congrats by the way
