Tesco's Coupons

Thanks for your post Martin. However, today I used a MOC at Tesco for an item I didn't buy and it was accepted with no problem. It was a £1 denomination though so maybe they're not bothered about the more negligable amounts.

I find it quite laughable some of the comments that people have put on here. Best of all are the ones saying how couponers have ripped Tesco off and been greedy etc and how it is good it has come to an end.

Well you are slagging off Martin saying that, because Martin was promoting the policy, so are you saying he is promoting greed and ripping Tesco off?

Fact: Tesco allowed us to use coupons up to the full value of the shop as long as all different/in date/items stocked at Tesco
Fact: This policy was written and emailed i have a letter on headed paper with it)
Fact: This policy had been going for many years, some say 20 years
Fact: It was becoming fragile, and Martin admits that, yet he chose to publicise it further
Fact: A few days after Martin's appearance, the policy was pulled. Coincidence?

I have nothing else to add!

I don't blame Martin for telling people about various offers via here or his newspaper & Tv columns, i blame people's greed.
It's this greed that has shut down nearly all of the Moneysaving offer's that Tesco use to offer.

Xtra points: ie: Beef in Gravy ,people went out & bought hundreds then bragged about it to whoever would listen.

Double the Difference : people were buying 5-6 of the items just to milk the offer ,1 member here moaned because they bought a load of Microwaves (think it was 10 )and they would not give DotD on all of them.

Green point's on Recycling : Cut everything up into 1/2's, 1/4's etc , i paid for honeymoon by recycling, big spread in a newspaper.

Health & Beauty bonus points: there were topics on what was best to buy & how much you could then sell the items at bootsales.

All these were offers to collect points to reduce the cost of holidays, etc but people became greedy and wanted it all for free.
Now there are limits being introduced to the amount of points used on most holidays.
I wager that everyone who is moaning will still come here to hunt down bargins and tips.
Don't blame Martin Lewis ,blame these greedy people who abused the system then have the audacity to come back here and moan that the goose that layed the golden egg's has stopped laying.

I couldn't agree more ........ greed not need ........ but that appears to be the culture of the human race and it will be the architect of its demise.

Martin does not seem to realise how many people have been affected and by how much, maybe to him it is only a few coupons, but to a lot of people it added up to a lot of money each month, sometimes the difference between eating and not on some days.
I personally think that MSE was started brilliantly by Martin but has now become a fantastic site due to the MEMBERS who contribute.

I agree 100% , ultimately their greed is at the expense of others , either in higher prices or job loses . Ironically one of the posters is called me me me :rolleyes:

Tesco's email re- change of coupon policy
For those of you interested in the recent change to the coupon policy at Tesco, please see below, Tesco's response to an email I sent ....

Thank you for your email,

First I would like to apologise for the delay in my response to your email. We usually try to respond within 24 to 48 hours, but at the moment we’re receiving more contacts than anticipated, which is why our replies are later than we would like.

I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed and dismayed that we no longer accept manufacturers coupons. I realise you are a loyal customer of ours and have always adhered to the coupons policy and there is no doubt in my mind that says otherwise. I hear from you that you've been so used to using these coupons as a method of payment for some time now and as a result of this new policy you are left feeling unhappy. In addition, you are now going to have to find additional funds as you are on a limited budget just like us all, due to the current financial climate. I know where you are coming from with this as I have a budget I have to adhere to each week!

I'd like to take this opportunity of giving you some information we have on this policy and this may help you understand why we've taken the decision to change this.

I can confirm that recent media articles informing our customers that internet and supplier coupons can be redeemed in large quantities at Tesco, even if they have not bought the product has led us to make the decision to only accept coupons for products purchased by our customers. This also complies with the Terms and Conditions written on each coupon. I'm pleased to say that we will continue to accept Competitor Conditional Spend Coupons as long as the minimum spend has been met, as well as Healthy Start and Luncheon Vouchers.

To let you know for future, I have copied in our Coupon Policy below:-

We'll happily accept your coupons if you've bought the product.

This includes Tesco and supplier coupons.

Unfortunately if you haven't bought the product we can't accept the coupon.

Customers can only use a coupon as payment if they have bought the product shown on the coupon.

Healthy Start Vouchers and Luncheon Vouchers can still be accepted as usual as well as non scanned coupons such as Saving Stamps, Gift Vouchers and Special Offer Promise Vouchers. Competitor Conditional Spend coupons can also still be accepted as long as the customer has spent the minimum amount shown on the coupon.

Also we do also accept Farmfood Vouchers.

Regrettably, it appears that this policy is permanent and has been in place since Friday 2nd October at 3pm as you've also stated in your email.

My intention is not to upset you any further but to try let you understand and have some additional information about this. I hope I have managed to supply this to you and I hope my reply doesn't bring you any disappointment. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to email me.

You seem oblivious to the fact that this site , along with other internet forums is part of the '' Media'' , it doesnt just apply to TV

No I'm not "slagging" Martin off, all he did was share some knowledge with people. Its the people who went to extremes who I am "slagging" off as you put it.

I have nothing else to add!

It was a cash cow to be milked (for all its worth), but it was unsustainable.
Why not just be grateful that it lasted as long as it did?

Could well be about my GMTV appearance - though that wasn't about using large numbers of vouchers. Equally it could refer to the following story in the Sun.

From some internal sources I also hear there was large spread disquiet about the volumes of the pedigree vouchers being used and possibly reprinted as cash.
