Just ordered one of the 5150s 3.4GHz - I think it may be a price mistake (compare it with the one labelled Advanced Desktop and there doesn't appear to be much difference). You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -

I think you are right, these must be flying out. I was going to go for the top end machine but plumped for the £229 as I don't play games and have read I can increase the RAM if necessary.
Does anyone know how easy this would be, please?
Upgrading the RAM is VERY easy. You just need to order from https://www.crucial.com, flip open the PC, and stick it into the 2 spare slots on the motherboard. Upgrading everything on the DELL is pretty easy too e.g. adding a new hard drive (though you do need a right angled SATA cable instead of the normal type).0 -
Does anyone think that the 5100 being sold by BT will be similar to model D-D05512 being sold by Dell?
Interestingly the BT machine comes with a 200MB hard disk, but this doesn't appear to be a size which Dell sell so it'll be interesting to see what BT supply
Also the BT photo shows this having a 9-in-1 card reader, but it isn't listed in the spec. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
They look pretty good for the price but I presume all the parts are generic, what make is the Hard Drive.Total CC Debt: £1750

Car Loan £1750

Redundancy OCT £2000

Didn't BT recently buy up DABS?0

The hard drive in the 5150 I bought from Dabs.com for £229.99 + del (which I assume is the same as the BT offering) is a Maxtor. It is quieter than my Hitachi which I thought was quiet. If you want to look up the exact spec of my machine on the Dell website the tag number is JLN032J - tells you the DVD type etc.
EDIT : It seems that this gets better and better for me. Someone over at RPoints has told me how to check the warranty from Dell online using this link
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/emea/shared/support/my_systems_info/en/details?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs
If you put my service tag in it says 991 days of DELL CFI with complete care left from 05/02/2006 to 04/02/2009 !!! Not sure what CFI is. You can get teh system config from that link too.0 -

I rang BT before I placed my order and was told that they came with a years warranty, but hey did not know if that was a collect service or a return to base. I live with an IT engineer so should not be too much of a problem to me either way. I do hope it is the 5150, lets see tuesday or wednesday.
By the way the BT number (@ 8p per minute) was answered on the first ring - very impressed.
