Warm/Hot hatch for under £7k.

Can't see you getting a 225 for £6k...
Hot Hatch and 35mpg is difficult.
Other Considerations:
Mondeo ST220
Octavia VRS
VW Bora 1.8T
Seat Toledo T Sport (Leon Cupra for £2k less....)0 -
I agree - 180 bhp + 35mpg is a big ask - 25mpg more realistic
25mpg might be a bit low, was thinking more like 30-32 at best for most of the cars suggested.
Just seen you do a lot of motorway miles so 30+ is achievable.
Out of all the cars suggested, I'd go for the VRS or the Toledo.0 -

Anything above 30mpg is fine really."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

ST220 doesn't actually feel like it has 220bhp. It's more noise than anything...0

Another vote for the Alfa 147 2.0 TS or if you can find one the GTA. Great cars!0

Its a shame the Audi A3 2.0T FSI is outside my budget as that would have fit the bill nicely."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

I don't usually hear the words 'Diesel' and 'sporty' used together............
If you want something 'sporty' don't get a diesel, people look ridicolous trying to race off from the lights in an oil burner.
Not really, I've had quite a few 'Sporty' diesels, Golf GTI version, 150BHP and like in my previous post the Ibiza 160BHP TDI - The Ibiza was 0-60 in 7.5 seconds returning 47MPG not bad for an old smoke blower..0 -
I have seen a few facelift type Rs(2004 +) within my budget with around 60K on the clock which is fine. My concern is that to get a decent performance you have to rev the nuts out of it and I reckon that will become tiresome especially on a long motorway journey. Also I don't think I will get close to 35MPG.
Was the Ibiza Cupra the latest shape one...what was the ride like?
It wasn't the latest one out (2009) it was a 2005 version - Ride was good sometimes a bit hard on the 45 profile but acceptable0
