People do things for people they love without thinking about reciprocation. Get yourself on the right track and let your friend know you are grateful for her speaking up.....when the time is right you will repay your friend and it will probably not be in any financial way!

    Good luck with today... xxx

Am I right in saying you live on your own. If so who would the life insurance benifit?? Also health insurance is something of a luxury you can't afford.

Phone and B/Band package also seems very expensive?

Is there a possibility of a 2nd job say in a pub or restuarant in the evenings or something at the weekend?

Be open and honest with your parents you never know what they may be able to help with (a roof over your head for a year or so would be great but if they can't do that they may well offer some help in some other way).

Ok quick update. I'm at my mums. She;s at the bank drawing some money out to clear what i am over on my overdraft for me.

She is also going to clear my store card so that i have one less bill to worry about on payday. And then once the immediate problems are sorted she is going to see if they can help me clear my lowest cc rather than me pay loads of interest on it.

I know i am going to have to pay them back but at least it wont be at 16% interest. And i'm sure she wont let me starve while i'm doing so either.

I feel a whole lot better for having told her. Turns out she suspected anyway. Gonna sell my car and get a much cheaper one which should free up about £4500 to pay off a lump sum on one of my other cards. I couldnt do this before without telling them i was in debt. I'm sure she is angry and disappointed but so far has not even told me off. Just that i am stupid. Maybe that will come later when it sinks in to her just how stupid i have been.

I think the best thing so far is that she let me use her credit card and i have now installed gamblock on my laptop. and it works. so definitely no more gambling for me.

Thanks to everyone who posted this morning. You kept me going.

Hi cantcope - sorry to hear about your bad experience with the online casinos. As someone else who is recovering from compulsive gambling I would also recommend Gamblers Anonymous or using the forum on https://www.gamcare.com

There are a lot of people there who can offer advice and support.

    Good luck!
  • Hi cantcope,

Fantastic news - make sure you give your mum a big hug and offer to make her a cup of tea - she sounds like a real star.

    Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
    Bank of Scotland = £2,782.83
  • Good luck cant

OK.. its wonderful that you have a mum who can help you out - but hopefully that any guilt and awfulness you feel will assist you in making sure that you don't do this again. It is going to be difficult and hard, but the reality of life is not easy.

If I were you, when you sell your car use that money to pay your mum back first rather than your cards. I always find it better to show your gratitude to your loved ones above anything.

Going to preventative measures - I thnk that you need to change your banking arrangements so that you have a "limited" functionality debit Card that is not accepted on these sites. Not a cure - but may be something that will assist?

Hi & big hugs...read the opener & felt physically sick on your behalf. You mum is fab for helping you out BUT you do need to address the root cause & get some support with this from others who have a simular problem & agree with the others that GA etc could make a real difference. We all have our vices (lets face it thats why most of us here eh - we've all been stupid in one way or another!) andyours happens to be gambling. Well done for putting block on; v good idea above getting a card where you cant gamble as removes temptation and may come as a relief. I really hope that this is your rock bottom and that you can move forward and make real and positive changes. Thank God for mums & friends though eh!! Big hugaroo and remember tomorrow is a new day....

    Hi

Also glad to hear your doing ok. Id definetely seek help or first hand councilling or something.
I dont know personally what being an addict is like but i have a serious addict (not gambling) in my immediate family who i went through a lot with. I know to what lengths addicts will go to. So i really do hope you seek some professional help.

Forwards and upwards for the future:)
